Welcome to IWETHEY!

New All right, how do you store potatoes to prevent sprouting?
Apparently keeping them in the dark in a 74 degree house[1] isn't the best solution. :-/ I bought a 10 pound bag 3 days ago and they're already starting to bud a bit.

What do you do? Use [link|http://info.ag.uidaho.edu/pdf/CIS/CIS1120.pdf|magic oils] (4 page .pdf)?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.

New Simple method
Slice them into long, thin strips. Immerse in hot oil for a couple of minutes. Remove from oil and drain. Add salt. Store in your belly.

New Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.
New Dark is good - but that temperature is rather high.
Warm will sprout them much faster, but when they decide to sprout they're going to do it. Keep in mind the sprouts are mildly toxic (these things are nightshades, after all) but sensitivity to that varies. I've rubbed the sprouts off some pretty green potatoes, cooked them and eaten them with no ill effects.

New Isnt that what the bottom drawer in your fridge is for?
Follow your MOUSE
New Not enough room. Too cold.
Grapefruit, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. take up a bunch of room too.

I'll try storing them in the basement where it's about 5 degrees cooler. It looks like 40-50 F is [link|http://mvproduce.com/storing.html|ideal], so the frigde wouldn't be the best place.

Cheers,
Scott.
