For argument's sake, where would be the best place to run?
I was thinking about that the other day. I thought of Australia and Finland, since we have contacts in those two countries and they seem to be pretty stable. Mind you, this is purely hypothetical at this point, but if things deteriorated to the point that we should run, I think it is something worth discussing.
Have at it!
Peace, Amy

Depends.
I'd run to the ballot box with a few dozen of my closest friends.
Oh, you mean where would one emigrate to? Well, that depends too. If you've got enough money, you can live very well, with many of the personal freedoms we come to expect, almost anywhere. (E.g. Arthur C. Clarke lives in Sri Lanka.)
Don't panic. Politics goes in cycles. The national politics will swing leftward again, and probably pretty soon. I don't think Bush is going to be able to hand-wave his way out of his current predicament. I don't think it'll come to impeachment, but I think things like the recent NSA disclosure, the Little Red Book story, etc., are causing people to realize that checks on the executive have been too weak and must be strengthened.
But to answer your question, if I had to leave it would probably be to Canada. Nice people up there, reasonable freedoms, a reasonable economy, not as crowded as Europe, and very much like the US in many respects.
But I'm not packing my bags anytime soon. :-)
Cheers, Scott.

He won't have to hand-wave.
All he'll have to do is utter the magic words: "Save American Lives", and all his problems will magically disappear.

I'm happy they're PO'ed
but tht's not news (esp. for Feingold, who was the only senator with a set re: the Iraq "incursion"). Now show me a Repo who's pissed, and I say you've got something.

The UK. Speak the same language, similar culture, temperate climate and few fanatics (except for animal rights activists). And certainly don't buy the War on Terror bull.
Oh, alright. The US populace don't buy the War on Terror anymore, either. In this case, I think no Senator hasn't gotten round to curtailing what was once the golden boy department.

Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. You freaks don't allow an armed populace, so only the criminals have firearms. Hell, even the local constabulary doesn't walk around armed. What a mind-boggling concept.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow
