24 September 05: the triumph of hope...
over experience as, twenty-nine years after the first attempt, [link|http://homepage.mac.com/rcareaga/Sites/aus_pix/foursome.jpg|RC gets hitched (or saddled) again.**] To my unspeakable horror and astonishment I choked up during the ceremony, even though I had sounded like an anchorman during the rehearsal twenty hours earlier. This gave me instant street cred with the women present; elicited a genial contempt among the men. I'm happy to report that the alarming transformation of my easygoing SO into a snarling harridan during the 36 hours leading up to the ceremony appears to have been a transient phenomenon routinely observed among brides-to-be. I am so very relieved to have got through this weekend, even though it beggared me. Last time I did this, all the planning and expense was undergone by the in-laws to-be. It has taken me until now to appreciate the beauty of this arrangement.
