I get audio but no video in both xine and mplayer.

New apt-get install w32codecs ?
In /etc/apt/sources.list:

# Christian Marillat's stuff (MPlayer, etc)
deb [link|ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/|ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/] unstable main

Yes, even on Ubuntu. Just install without verification.
