Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Thanks.
I'll look through those. The biggest problem we have encountered (and I'm new on this particular project - my predecessors have struggled with this through the last couple of years and it is one of the larger messes I've ever seen. I'm incrementally trying to clean all this up) is that the DOS apps are Clipper compiled applications. My company tried unsuccessfully a couple years ago trying to use samba. I'm not certain of details, but I was gold that the clients "didn't have enough free memory" to execute the Clipper apps. The DOS boxen are now connecting to a Netware 5.1 server using Novell's DOS client on a VG network. No, I didn't mistype that, a VG network.

Aside: our supplier for NICs and other gear for this network is eBay. And no, I don't sleep very well yet. :0(

New If you've got the Clipper source, look at FlagShip.
[link|http://www.fship.com/|Flagship]. If you don't, well, it's probably only going to keep getting worse trying to support such old code.

I know nothing about it, but it was [link|http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.clipper/browse_thread/thread/aee9d4a13065dba4/f0d9de1330acf3a6?q=DOSemu+clipper&rnum=3#f0d9de1330acf3a6|reported] in 2000 to be 100 times faster than Clipper and compatible with Clipper '87 to 5.2x (5.3 now).

Luck!

Cheers,
Scott.
New As a consultant a couple years back, ...
that's what I suggested. We do have the source - er, some of the source. This app base is what the company was founded on and what it still largely runs on. And the problem with Flagship is that over the years, several libraries were purchased from long defunct companies and the source for that is unavailable. Flagship folks said that was a big problem. But, I'd love to turn those DOS boxen into Linux boxen, maybe I should give it another look...

Mikem

New Decompiler?
[link|http://www.hallogram.com/valkyrie/|Valkyrie] - a Clipper decompiler. I don't know how well it works with protected code (if that's an issue) and it doesn't work with 5.3. That may not help you if the libraries in question aren't written in Clipper.

You're probably aware of tools like that, but just in case you weren't...

Luck!

Cheers,
Scott.
