It looks like running straight MS-DOS clients will be difficult with 2003 Server:

[Q] hi out there. have a simple (at least i hope so) question. running 4 machines which has to connect by dos client in our domain. mostly it works but sometimes they get an error message. it says: "access denied". also we are running w2k network with 4 domain controllers, one of them on server2003. so my guess is that every time they want to logon in the domain and the 2003 DC is servicing them they get this error message. is there a way in netlogon to prefer a DC which is definetly on w2k?
[A] For dos client you can't designate a Domain Controller because dos clients do not use LDAP to query DNS for Domain Controller they simply use underlaying protocols to communicate with Domain Controller and LAN Manager takes care of this so LAN Manager uses NT4.0 architecture.

If you only need DOS clients, wouldn't you be better off with a Linux server somewhere providing the login services to the DOS boxes? Maybe some variation of [link|http://cui.unige.ch/info/pc/remote-boot/howto-3.html|this] remote booting setup? Or running a stripped-down Linux client that ran [link|http://www.dosemu.org/|DOSEMU] or [link|http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1|DOSBox]? I'd be very nervous about running Win98 on any networked machine these days.
HTH a bit, or at least gives you a possible different mode of attack.
Cheers,
Scott.
