New That's harsh
I dont disagree with you, but at the center of this circus are two parents who are loosing their daughter. A pale iguana? Have a little compassion! My heart breaks for her family.
New They lost her 15 years ago...
Regards,

"Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson..."
New They are still in 'denial'
As far as THEY are concerned, they haven't 'lost' her yet.

Imric's Tips for Living
  • Paranoia Is a Survival Trait
  • Pessimists are never disappointed - but sometimes, if they are very lucky, they can be pleasantly surprised...
  • Even though everyone is out to get you, it doesn't matter unless you let them win.

Nothing is as simple as it seems in the beginning,
As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New Re: They are still in 'denial'
That's right. Put yourself in their shoes. If this was your child, would you want to give up hope? If your child were breathing, wouldnt you still consider her alive? It doesnt matter that she's been in her current condition for 15 years. It's still their daughter and they're watching her die. Not only do they have to deal with the loss of their child, but they also have to grieve the loss of their fantasy that she will recover. AND they have to do it with the whole world watching.
New I can't see the basis of their hope
Nobody can live without hope. However, I regard the brain as the basis of a person and if vital sections are dead, they will never reheal and are gone forever. The impossible can happen but there is no basis for hope. For me, a CAT scan would be the incontrovertible proof and the end of the world.

Maybe I'm not subject to wishful thinking and realise that once hope is gone, you must leave and look for hope about something else.

I keep wondering whether this use of logic makes me inhuman or human, rather than animal.

Matthew Greet

But we must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig, cow after cow, village after village, army after army. And they call me an assassin. What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? They lie. They lie and we must be merciful to those who lie.
- Colonol Kurtz, Apocalypse Now.

No, it doesn't make you inhuman.

Just because you love someone doesn't render you incapable of realising that the best thing to do is let go.

New If it were my child, i'd want to...
...1) Make sure her final wishes were honored.
2) I'd want her to go in dignity, and peace.

Nobody sees either of these things in those 'parents'.

shrub\ufffdbish (Am., from shrub + rubbish, after the derisive name for America's 43 president; 2003) n. 1. a form of nonsensical political doubletalk wherein the speaker attempts to defend the indefensible by lying, obfuscation, or otherwise misstating the facts; GIBBERISH. 2. any of a collection of utterances from America's putative 43rd president. cf. BULLSHIT

New I would have put a pillow over their face years ago
I love my boys, but I brought them into this world and would relieve them of it, if they were in the "same" medical condition. Its the very least that I would owe them.

New Re: They are still in 'denial'
If this was your child, would you want to give up hope?

- hope is one thing - but you have to hang hope on reality

If your child were breathing, wouldnt you still consider her alive?

- not in this condition, no

It doesnt matter that she's been in her current condition for 15 years.

- yes it does. There is no way this person is recovering. Its tough. I feel for them, but I watched my dad's wife try to drag him along and I went to battle with her to get life support withdrawn. I'm all about compassion - what sickens me is selfish cruelty.

It's still their daughter and they're watching her die.

- she died 15 years ago. At this point, their pain is self inflicted.

Not only do they have to deal with the loss of their child, but they also have to grieve the loss of their fantasy that she will recover.

- see above - self inflicted.

AND they have to do it with the whole world watching.

- that's a whole other crime and yes I believe the perpetrators deserve new lives as fast food and sanitation workers.

New I have compassion
loads of it. This grandstanding of the "morally" self-righteous leaves me ill.

I'm sorry that her bio family is living in fantasy land. Now is the time for tough talk. They need to come to grips with the fact that she is gone and she's never coming back. It can't happen.

If you wanna hold out for a miracle, fine. If a miracle is going to happen, her being off life support isn't going to stop it.
