Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Greetings!
Hi all :)
I'm new so be nice!

I stole this accordian from a blind monkey! BUT YOU! You disgust even ME!
New Well . . .
First you get through the part where we find out if you are real or not (I think [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=186227|
Barbara] didn't make it). After that it's clear sailing as long as your skin isn't too thin.

New We're mostly a collection of techo geeks
So tell us about yourself and what brought you to IWETHEY.

Once everyone wakes up and reads your post, you'll be thoroughly poked and prodded to see, as Andrew said, "if you're real". Nightowl passed and is a regular member. Others have attempted to spam us. They're toasted, roasted, and derided.

Hope you're for real and, as your sig indicates, a female. We could use some more here. ;-)

Welcome aboard. Hang on tight for the ride.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail ... but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"
New With a sig about a stolen accordian...
Am I safe in assuming you followed a link from a Kingdom of Loathing player profile?

New Ah. But my (approximate) recollection of his age was right.
Most people born in 1941 are still with us, so Ernesto might have been alive, hadn't he been stabbed back when I was twelve.

BTW, I liked the irony of "A suspect [in the stabbing of Ernesto Miranda] was arrested, but he chose to exercise his right to remain silent after being read his Miranda rights."

New Greetings and Salivations!
And welcome to our Merry Bande!

As far as hints...well, you already got the one about flames and retards. A couple of other ones:

--> No cussing in the subject line...we try to maintain a PG-13 image for public consumption (Oh...you're an Aussie...prolly don't know about PG-13; PG-13 is a movie rating that states "some material not suitable for children under 13".) We have a forum specifically for when you just can't help yourself...that being the Flame Quarantine forum, which is most assuredly NC-17 ("no children under 17 years admitted").

--> Don't feed the trolls. You'll soon find out who they are. (Hint: different trolls hide under the bridges of different fora.)

--> Only Debian fans need post in the Linux forum. Other distros are tolerated (barely), and the breadth of knowledge of other distros pales against the sheer weight and force of the Debian mastery exhibited herein.

--> Windows sucks, but you already knew that......didn't you?

--> LOL...Lessee, you already heard about that....

--> If (no, when) you get into an argument about something, hold your ground. It'll prove you're a real person, and not a flake. But don't be afraid to change you position if you're confronted with overwhelming evidence to the contrary. No one here will accuse you of flip-flopping.

--> Don't post graphics that are more than 3-digits wide. It causes everyone to have to scroll left to right to read any post int he thread, and it pisses off the pig. (Note to Scott: If you could fix the wrapping so that only the post with the wide graphic, and anything by jake123, would have to be scrolled, this person would be very appreciative!)

--> Have fun! We'll see ya later!

New ?
I'm not particularly aware of causing massive scrollage, unless it's my .sig; however, at 67 chars wide, it's certainly within the norm for usenet, let alone the web; unless you're using a ridiculously large fixed width font for the size of your display, it shouldn't cause scrolling at all.

New Just because Debian

What I really should have said though, is that I'm extremely wary of any new users who just suddenly pop up and appear, in light of my current situations.

A. Hard to say, but considering that all you're risking is the $20 co-payment, there's no harm in giving it a shot.

New Ok, folks...
We're never going to get any new people around here if the first thing that comes up is the whole "Norm" issue.

Miranda, we had a particularly psychotic individual who used to hang around here named Norm. He would post under multiple accounts to make himself look attacked, threatened to commit suicide on a regular basis, anything to draw attention to himself. He did this so much that many of the regulars here now automatically don't trust ANY new account from ANYBODY, without proof that the person is who they say they are.

And Miranda, I was there once too.... in your position.

New To that end...
All we'd like to know is if you are really someone NEW. Not a re-hash of old personae.

Some of us would like and e-mail to a trusted known individual (Like me, they know I exist and after all, we are using my hosting :)

Once that trusted person(s) confirm real existance not merely and alias, this type of harshness will go away.

If you like, some of use have clickable e-mail addresses in their signature block... (hint hint, mine does)

Sorry, but the jerk in the knee-jerk is still quite fresh in many other's minds. For that I am truly sorry that you have to bear the bad fruits of another's brutal attempts to draw attention to themselves.

New Paranoid much?
I am not going to go through my time here suspicious of any new poster till proven worthy. That sucks. I will accept them at face value and let their actions speak for themselves. I don't need anyone to vouch for them. I don't even care if it *is* another persona of Norm's. Play nice and so will I. Act the jerk and get blown off.

Well everyone has to do what works for them. However, some of us have been burned and messed with a lot worse and more dramatically than others, so each person has to choose how to handle said "situation."

New Things have been squirrelly today, network wise.
Quite frequently today I've been having trouble with "Waiting for z.iwethey.org.." messages in Mozilla that time out. Similarly with other sites. :-(

I wrote the reply on one PC, submitted it, Scroll-Lock Scroll-Lock to the other PC and saw it was there in the forum. I did some stuff, went back to the first PC and went to a different page and hit refresh on z. I wasn't on the Edit page. I got a popup saying "... Post message ... Are you sure?" It seemed a little strange, but I said OK. Then it timed out. So I did it again, same popup. And low and behold I had 2 more of the same replies posted.

I'll learn...

Cheers,

You're typing on a device that stores trillions of pieces of data and makes billions of computations per second with the ability to grab data on almost anything from around the world in milliseconds, using electricity transmitted from hundreds of kilometers through wires on towers dozens of meters tall connected to megastructures that do things like burn coal as fast as entire trains can pull into the yard, or spin in the wind with blades the size of jumbo jets, or the like, which were delivered to their location by vehicles with computer-timed engines burning a fuel that was pumped up halfway around the world from up to half a dozen kilometers underground and locked into complex strata (through wells drilled by diamond-lined bores that can be remote-control steered as they go), shipped around the world in tankers with volumes the size of large city blocks and the height of apartment complexes, run through complex chemical processes in unimaginable quantities, distributed nationwide and sold to you at a corner store for $1.80 a gallon, which you then pay for with a little piece of microchipped plastic, if not a smartphone, which does all of the aforementioned computer stuff but in a box the size of your hand that tolerates getting beaten up in your pocket all day.

But technology never seems to advance...
