New Re: Nah... I am just exercising.
Get a fucking clue - Linux in the REAL WORLD is RedHat and mostly nothing else. The ONLY CHANCE Linux has against Windows is vendor support. So while you're practicing your "religion", I'm trying to make a dent in the impenetrable barrier of Windows and its legions of PHB supporters. This thread started out as an acerbic joke, and you had to raise it to something serious - well THERE is my serious statement back at you. Debian is bullshit hobbyist GPL "purist" religion - all that really matters is the damn binary format if you want to be real. I support SuSE because I want someone to get big, fat, and strong on Linux, and do battle both with useless vendor UNIX and Windows. Debian doesn't have a fucking chance in the corporate world.

Like all utopias, Debian is poison.

This is a religious war, with the complete and utter destruction of Debian and no choice in computing platform in one future and a world of peace and harmony with numerous computer systems in the other. OK, so I exaggerate a bit, but the point is made. There's a contract out on the Debian and if it dies, Unix and Redhat are probably next.

I'm reminded of a quote from Germany in the early 40s: "First they came for the Jews, and I said nothing because I was not Jewish. Then they came for the Catholics, and I said nothing because I was not Catholic. When they finally came for me, there was no one left to say anything."

The worst part is, Debian users know that this war is undeserved. Such an elegant and useful system should not be reviled and dismissed by the very people whom it would most benefit. Nevertheless, there's a vast rumor mill which is constantly spouting falsehoods about Linux and Debian.

Where did you dredge up that?

UNIX isn't going anywhere. Performance matters and Windows will never hack it. Linux has now had at least 7 years to come up with a GUI environment supported by a sane, tight API. I like Linux but I'd kill for an OSX Mac. Linuxists blew it with stupid politically correct GPL horseshit that impeded development. Now it's too late for the desktop unless Novell has some mighty fine work waiting in the wings.

New You know nothing.
Novell has far surpassed what you can comprehend.

They have far greater plans than you can even begin to get an inkling about.

You don't have the inside angle at all.

You will be shocked when it happens.

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]

New "First they came for the Communists".
"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist - so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat - so I did nothing. Then they came for the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew - so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left who could stand up for me."

There are various versions and some dispute about when and if he wrote it and what it was originally. There's much speculation that it has been altered over the years. This is the version my father told me when I was very young. Interestingly, in US translations I've read and heard over the years, the Communists are typically left out - as you did. I just google'd and found that most online versions start out (correctly) with the Communists. I say "correctly" because that was the sequence of events. The Communists were the first targets of the Nazis.

"The struggle for the emancipation of the working class is not between races or religions. It is one of class against class. Every trace of anti-Semitism, or any form of race hatred cannot assist the oppressed, it can on the contrary only aid the exploiters. Workers of all nationality, religion or creed must stand together against the common enemy: capitalism."

New No. You do not understand.
Debian is far more than you know, far more than you can conceive.

You talk of a Hobbyist Distro? that'd be Gentoo.

You talk about vendor support? Who cares. But since you seem to care, I have Blazing New Hardware, with Very "developed for Windows" hardware.

I run Debian, with the Linux Kernel. Same as every other Distro. I have full support for nearly anything you can throw at Debian. It would be the same for your precious SuSE. Err Novell Linux...

Impenetrable barrier? no... enlightenment makes all the difference, letting the pain happen until it registers. Then help them out of the pain.

All that really matters is the damn binary format if you want to be real? Wow, I seem to be under the impression that Debian supplies Binary. And also includes all sources too. So, what is exactly the difference? Debian requires all software in the Main archive to be "Free" GPL qualifies but so do about 10 other licenses... including things such as Yast would be easy enough to do, if Yast would really support apt packages.

Debian doesn't have a fucking chance in the corporate world!

Another blanket statement. Not even what Debian is all about Ross. Debian Isn't COMMERCIAL, it isn't steered by Companies (like Fedora Core), it isn't FOR profit.

You don't understand anything. Linuc in general is beyond you. You fail to comprehend the real differences.

Go away.

New Re: No. You do not understand.
The damn companies that would otherwise try Linux care. That is simply a fact. It may be a stupid fact but there it is.

And no matter what, I despise religious zealotry.
-drl
New Then you despise yourself?
You religiously defend SuSE.

You are saying SuSE is the end-all be-all Distro.

I have said that Debian just plain works.

I have made funny posts about the Religion of Debian, mainly because you will get tweaked about it and go off ranting and raving like a self-righteous defender of the SuSE Commercial Distro.

I have given you direct points related to your ramblings, now you are calling me a religious zealot for Debian.

Debian is *MY* choice to use. What you fail to understand is:
I have a priority subscription to Slackware, a distributor discount for SuSE, have purchased numerous versions of other commercial versions of Linux; RedHat, Xandros, Conectiva. I also have used and like Gentoo, LFS, Lindows/Linspire, Lycoris... and others.
Yet, *YOU* call me a Religious Zealot... Wow.

New Yeah... I know.
It is my love affair with Slackware that has everyone talking about me 2 timing Debian...

Sheesh, hey it's only a "pain" thing. Gotta get it somewhere because Debian doesn't give it to me.

And, I only get to get Slackware in the first round of Shipments out of them. Usually I get the Distro CD set the day before it is supposed to be available.
