New Can't beat the fun at the ole ballpark . . .

Texas reliever Frank Francisco was arrested today on a charge of aggravated battery after he threw a chair into the right-field box seats and hit two spectators in the head during Monday night's loss to the Oakland Athletics.

[...]

After the game, Rangers manager Buck Showalter said the fans "went over the line."

"It was a real break from the normal trash you hear from fans. We've had problems about every time we've come here," he said.

But today, Texas owner Tom Hicks apologized "for the conduct of some members of our club last night in Oakland."

"Their behavior, especially the injury to a fan, was unacceptable. Even in a difficult or abusive environment, players should never be provoked into such actions," Hicks said in a statement, adding that he had been in contact with the commissioner's office. He did not say whether Francisco or any other player would be punished.

[...]

Texas reliever Doug Brocail was seen screaming at a male fan, and the pitcher had to be restrained by his teammates and bullpen coach Mark Connor. Others also had to be held back.

New You know how everyone says hockey is a violent sport
MLB has way more bench clearing brawls than the NHL does.

New Yeah, well...
MLB has way more bench clearing brawls than the NHL does.
That's because the NHL ejects anyone from the game who joins a fight after the original two who are goin' at it. Part of their trying to crack down on violence in hockey. What a load of cack.

Oh well. At least we won't have to worry about all that on-ice fighting this year. The Lockout begins today. My love of hockey is quickly deteriorating, brought down by owners and players who have bothered to talk to each other only about 6 times since last year, and have made absolutely no progress on a new CBA during those talks. After the most recent talks, the two sides agreed on one thing, and one thing only: They're not even speaking the same language.

Hockey fans, prepare for the worst.

New Doesn't mean you have to lose your love of hockey
but for myself I lost my love for the NHL quite a ways back. Yes, even the players... when they crossed the ref's picket lines a few years back.

New Never bought that argument
"Americans don't like hockey because it's too violent."

Yeah right. When was the last time you saw a bench clearing brawl in a NHL hockey game? As you said, that's something that happens all too frequently in MLB. How sad is it to see non-player personnel involved? How sad is it to see the guys in the bullpen run in?

The penalties for leaving the bench or penalty box is more than a simple ejection. There's suspensions, fines and team fines involved. If MLB wants to eliminate the same type thing they'll likewise impose some serious consequences on the players and teams.

No matter the sport, as soon as their are any altercations the fans stand up immediately and start bellowing.
