The last time I used it before that was in June.
I wasn't aware the word awesome was considered bad or stupid, even my Orchestra teacher used it to describe Wagner.

As with her music director's similar (proper) usage - this now intensively murdered-word was perhaps correct. This time.
Add it to innovation, Freedom, Liberty, Truth and Jesus-told-me-Directly that ___ in the Disdictionary of Improper Usage
..clearly, Dickie W was among the Possessed, but neither a JS nor a Wolfgang, He. Ya gots to consider too, from your vantage an ocean away: the level of noise / pabulum as assaults all senses on most-all US meeja 24/7. That the Owlet recognizes the transcendent, after all that noise - is a worthy accomplishment, all things considered.

Wagner is mostly 3-chord rock with an immense amount of dressing in the form of chromatic noodling. It's very simple-minded musically. All the shouting, screeching, and tympany banging hides the simplicity.

This quote is due to someone I knew in highschool who loved heavy metal, and whose mother loved Wagner. He came to realize that their tastes had more in common than he had known...

No real disagreement
But he has his pianissimo moments along with the Larger-than-life bombast, beloved of the Cherman High Command; the music went so well with Speer/Hitler's icy-cold 'architecture', as rendered human beings on ~ insect scale.
(It may be dangerous though.. glorifying the Teutonic myths as historical - much as Corp Religion does, their mantras intentionally confusing the metaphoric with the literal.) So don't try these flights of fancy at home, without at least a good hunch of what he was programming into malleable psyches.
How many recognize re The Doors (rock? group) its origin in Wm. Blake?

With Dickie Wagner - it's best to know what He is getting at, too. Then one can fully enjoy his perpetual anthems all saying, Hey! We Won.. Ain't It SWEET !?

And I was just about to post and ask what word you all would use to describe Wagner. :)
I think his music is sweeping, grandiose, it swallows you whole and makes you a part of it, if that makes any sense. You can just get lost in the sounds.
Oh, and my music director called it awesome, because he said it was "awe-inspiring" and I have to agree. :)

Oddly enough
If you are trying to tell me that the word awesome is out of date or something, or considered old usage, I just heard it on my TV moments ago, referring to that Lance Armstrong, and then I read it in my paper referring to Jeff Gordon and his Nascar performance.
