Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Heh. I'm not that jaded, but interestingly, ...
my wife is. I spoke to her about this over the week-end. Your comment

I believe the administration figured a good terrorist shock to the system would be just what they needed to get their ball rolling...

is the same line she took. She said she was not surprised that Dubya, roping goats in Texas at the time, was not alarmed by the now-released memo. "He's an idiot. You expect him to understand all the big words?" She went on, "Dubya's not smart enough to come up with [the sort of plan you describe], but Cheney sure as hell is."

I know the current crop is evil. I know John Dean has said they are far worse than Nixon ever dared dream to be. But there is some residue of faith in me that makes me want to believe that it was nothing more than an old school "gotta focus on the Cold War strategies" mentality coupled with incompetence on a scale rarely seen that caused the terrorists attacks to work so well.

I'll be the first to admit that I may be completely in the wrong.

[Edit: typo that changed meaning and delighted some.]

New But you might become that jaded
if you consider this: It is now well documented that the Duh "administration" was looking for something, ANYTHING, to justify invasion of Iraq. Would a terrorist attack within the United States, even if it was mounted by a McVeigh-style domestic terrorist organization fit the bill? You betcha!

Now, I don't (yet) believe that Evil Cabal (lincoln & Yendor, if you're old enough, you should know the source of that phrase...) actually knew of, or expected that the attack would be of the magnitude it was. But I do believe, like GBert suggests, that the "administration" was perfectly willing to look the other way just long enough to permit such a event to occur, then milk it politically for enough currency to allow them to go on their little adventure in Imperialism (or Revenge, take your pick...)

The problem (for them, anyway) is, they got a whole lot more than they bargained for....

shrub\ufffdbish (Am., from shrub + rubbish, after the derisive name for America's 43 president; 2003) n. 1. a form of nonsensical political doubletalk wherein the speaker attempts to defend the indefensible by lying, obfuscation, or otherwise misstating the facts; GIBBERISH. 2. any of a collection of utterances from America's putative 43rd president. cf. BULLSHIT

New If that's true.
Then what is left to make one "proud to be an American"? If what you suggest is true, then we, through our elected representatives, have become among the most heinous of peoples ever to darken the planet.

I'm not there yet, but I'll admit I'm on my way...
New Dude...they weren't ELECTED, remember?
Except for that momentary lapse, you're (unfortunately) right....

New name one scenario that gore wins
and arouse your selective memory to remember the florida legislature was ready to send electors of their choosing. Also that a challenge was ready to throw the election to the house where repo's had a majority. Just once explain how to legally recover from a registered democrat who screwed up the ballot so buchanon got gores votes. Elected, get over it (ya right about the same time I give up the fact that clinton should have been impeached)
thanx,

New Right, box. How'd I forget?
It was all those Jews down there in Florida voting for Buchanan that made the race so close. Those dang Jews, don't know where to put up walls, where to build houses or how to fill out a ballot.

New Umm, count the votes?
All of them. Either include the late absentee ballots from Dem leaning counties or exclude them from Repo leaning counties. As long as you use the same set of criteria for both.

There ya go. One of the many scenarios available.

Another might be, no roadblocks in predominatly black voting areas to scare away voters.

Another might be to let eligible voters vote instead of removing them illegaly from the rolls.

Another might be to let the recount suits proceed through the courts(who started that mess anyway? Oh yeah, team Bush sued to stop the recounts before they started). Saying the legislature was ready to bypass the courts is no doubt accurate. Just not complete. You don't know what the outcome might have been.

Another might be to keep the Repo out-of-state operatives from starting a "voter riot" to stop the recount.

Another might be....

Gore still couldnt get enough votes.

New You said name one.
Then ignored the several I did name, while continuing the Beepish mantra of "how many times do we count these?".

I'd guess a good answer would be, till it's done.

(Eagerly awaiting expected response. I got a bet with myself what it'll be.)

New each method you describe doesnt get gore into the whitehouse
the only way gore could have won was if the buchanan votes were correctly cast. Democrats lost the election because democrats voted for the wrong person. Now I was amused to watch the fooferaw over the "well this slight indentation somewhere on the card next to the grocery list means a vote for gore" that isnt counting votes.

Wow, you mean they reinstated all the people purged from the polls, took down the barricades, and had a revote, multiple times? Must've been in the World Daily News, 'cause that sure didn't make my paper. ;)

we didnt like this vote may we have another? Nope doesnt work that way

New The Constitution doesn't say ...
that the President should be elected democratically. Should we abandon that too?
New the constitution explicitly states how the president is
elected and guess what a popular vote isnt anywhere on there. A tyranny of the majority is to be feared as much as a tyranny of the minority which is what we have now.

constitution sez, electoral election ratified by the house. The electoral went to Bush, the house did not object.

New constitution sez, election by *properly elected* electoral.
New you want to explain?
Since the electors are selected by the state assembly and ratified without objection by the federal house the constitution was proerly served. Any Democrat that wished to object to Florida's electors could do so. They chose not to.

New Florida electoral college was -S-elected by US Supreme Court
The fact that the Democrats of the Federal House of Representatives didn't protest against that injustice doesn't excuse it; it just compounds it.

Like, if we know you cold-bloodedly murdered someone, and then the Chief of Police in your community doesn't arrest you, but in stead commends you on your good citizenship -- are you saying that makes your murder legal?!?

It doesn't; all it means is, the Chief of Police is a moron.

And likewise for the House Democrats.

HTH!
