I do hold an englishman's brothel is his castle , where he should behave accordingly--as many flash tails as he likes , but none of the troop fornications that the orientals and germans indulge in. Its not the indecency I mind , but the company of a lot of boozy brutes hallooing and kicking up a deuce of a row when I want to concentrate and give off my best. A regular bacchanalia is something to see right enough, but I am with the discriminating Frog who said that one is interesting, but only a cad would make a habit of it.

Sounds like the same institutionalized malice as.. the troopers who forced the killing of a Raven, locally - "who was not supposed to be alive" (having lost its feet). Kill it or we take it away and do it.
(It may also have to do with their changed legal status, once their er wheels touch sacred US soil; still.. I go with malice as the operative force of the moment - it's the unimaginitive response to anything unusual.)

couldve towed the fscker in and sold it at auction, I'd be
bidding on that. You are at 10 miles off US soil driving 80 miles accross the gulf stream in a buick. the fact that the work was done with all the latest technology that cuba has available makes this boat an item of special interest.

What right did the CG have to board and remove people at all? Who's to say its seaworthy (which I'm sure was the excuse for removing the people - obvious evidence to the contrary notwithstanding). As to sinking as nav hazard - shoulda taken it in tow then.
As a boater with limited exposure to the CG - I put them at the same level as highway patrolmen - I'd never call them and I don't want contact with them of any kind. Thugs and yahoos mostly.

I've always considered the state police depts (at least in states I know) to be the best cops around. The worst are suburban county cops and bedroom municipality cops.

Well, I think International waters start at 12 miles....
and that would give them jurisdiction. As for cause, if it's not a registered US vessel....

International waters limit . .
Traditionally this was set at maximum canon range, so 3 miles. Today's canon are considerably better, so many countries claim 20 miles.

12-miles / 200-miles (nautical) by international treaty.
The International "Law of the Sea" treaty specifies 12 miles and an "exclusive economic zone" of 200 miles.

International waters is 3 miles , sphere of influence is 200
which is arbitrarily set by the coatal coultries. The US holds that up to 200 miles offshore they can regulate fisheries and transportation. This of course is claimed in the Carribean as well with the US only recognising 3 miles off of the Island nations as being non US waters.

Water reflects radar too. The truck looks pretty high, but the car had a pretty low profile, surprised they could pick it up. I think they just need to time it to arrive near the US at night.

Re: Radar.
On my river boat cruise down the Danube last October, I visited the boat's control room. One of things shown on the control room tour was the radar. They can see most anything substantial that floats. One of the things seen on radar was a group of three ducks ahead starboard. As this was daytime, they could be seen visually as well. This was reassuring as the boat did much of the sailing through the night.
I'll grant you this was relatively short range use of radar.

On the flip side
Are stories from legions long distance sailors struggling to remain visible to tankers, hoisting all manner of metal doodads aloft, and radioing vessels asking if they can be seen on radar only to be told "uh - wait - can you give me a bearing - oh yes - that must be you?"
Depends a lot on weather conditions. Waves hide things and produce noise for instance.
