New Not just for web services anymore...
...do some searches on "lambdagrid" or "lambda grid"....web services will only be a small part of what is coming in grid technologies (18 months out or so).

There is a decent article about some of this in the journal COMMUNICATIONS OF THE ACM, November 2003 issue. No online link unless ya' gots a membership, but I've got hard copy iff'n you want electro-ink.

One intriguing part of coming grid technologies is the idea of constructing a data warehouse on the fly (in the network while in transit) rather than leveraging disk for same. Could be hype o' the day as usual, but still interesting to ponder.

New Re: Followed these ones ...

This person talks of Lambda Grids as being a particular type of GRID.

Am assuming that if ors accept OGSI & OGSA then they will be based on a firm Web Services platform. If not then one might wonder how an alternative can survive.

This next link discusses GRID/WebSvcs & Lambda Grids - the writer comments on the likely dominance of OGSA, I guess along the lines of my comment above.

The Lambda Grid is a wavelength-centric exploitation of EM radiation (e.g., visible light) on smart pipes (e.g., optical transport technology).

My reading of refs to Lambda Grid make it look like exploitation of light & thus a type of GRID not in competition with the other OGSA work.
