New Niagara Plunge Survivor Faces Charges

A man who went over Niagara Falls with only the clothes on his back and survived will be charged with illegally performing a stunt, Niagara Parks Police said Tuesday.

Kirk Jones, 40, of Canton, Mich., is the first person known to have gone over Niagara Falls without safety devices and lived. He could be fined $10,000.

New Good deed?
The story makes it sound like he was committing suicide in a way that should have guaranteed success. Should have gone to the American side where NO thrillseekers have ever gone over - too many rocks at the bottom.

New It wasn't intended to be a suicide.
He scouted the bottom looking for good landing points - then went for it.

He's from Canton - living in the Detroit area will do that to you.

I'm worried about Scott.

New He keeps changing his story
but the first rendition (which I suspect to be closest to the truth) was that he just wanted to change his life and he was said to be scouting landing spots.

I see he is claiming suicide attempts in court - might be to get out of some charge or other.

New No, I agree with that.
I meant about it being this area... ;-)

New Re: ...Ashcroft make attempted-suicide a capital offense?
I thought attempting suicide was already an offense, or against the law. What would make it different if it were a capital offense? Worse punishment or something?

Light dawns...

You mean if it was a capital offense, it would be punishable by death... how ironic.

New Re: Suicide attempt punishment....
Why not go the "Futurama" route and make Suicide Booths?

Of course in today's society if you attempt suicide you end up in a mental hospital if you survive it, a mourge if you don't.
