I don't believe this is a tech-specific depression anymore. Who is doing well? Apart from the fat cats with the bonuses for hosing their companies I mean.

I've got sufficient cash for 6 months - then I start dumping possessions on the market.

My job hunt has produced exactly 4 calls. All short term contracts (6 months or less) that haven't quite gelled yet at rates lower than my last perm salary.

..owner of a family business of 140 years - overheard him today saying "I can never remember in 35 years at this place, hearing the phones so quiet. Where is everyone?"

He's a die-hard, long-time Republican. He listens to Rush all day. I heard him call Bush a "cocksucker".

We have a long time, dedicated customer base. They have no money in their budgets. This is very, very bad, and it will not get better. The Repo tax rape is going to utterly destroy what is left of the economy. It will require years to get out of this.
