Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I'm sure this has been posted before.
[link|http://www.politicalcompass.org/|Polical Compass]

Accourding to their test, I am:
Economic Left/Right: -3.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.08
New Me: Economic: + 0.75, Auth/Lib: -4.21
I really disliked some of their questions though....

Cheers,
Scott.
New Economic: -5.88 Auth/Lib: -5.18
I get directed to this site every half year or so, and every time my score changes. I usually end up between -3.5/-3.5 and -5/-5, so I seem to have gotten a little more radical in my views over the past few months, hitting more of the "Strongly"s.

Another fun political toy is at [link|http://nationstates.net|http://nationstates.net] . It's a game where you run a country and get to decide on a political issue every day. After a few weeks of play, I'm classified as a "Left-Leaning College State" with Superb civil rights, a Good economy, and Good political freedoms.
New Hmm..Far more centrist than I'd have thought
I consider myself generally right on economically, and generally libertarian socially...and previous barometers of this sort have reflected that.

Economic Left/Right: 1.75
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -1.28

But like AnotherScott, I truly disliked some of the questions. For example, I may consider some of the situations to be "wrong", morally or otherwise, and chose 'agree' to those. However, that in no way means I would support laws against such things. I imagine that if I had chose 'disagree' to some of those, my score toward libertarian would have been higher.

New Yup.
One of the ones I didn't like was:
Schools pay too much attention to the arts and not enough towards their real function - equipping the future generation to find jobs.
I don't think any of the schools pay too much attention to the arts at the expense of job training. I think too much attention is paid to sports at the expense of job training (unless you're going to be a professional player).

But then, I also believe that schools should do more than just train the next generation of worker-consumers.

Rather than being one statement, I think that that one statement should be at least three statements:

#1. Schools spend too much attention on the arts.
(strongly disagree, most kids today know nothing of the arts except for rap music and transgretional stuff like Maplethorp)

#2. Schools real function is equipping the future generation to find jobs. (disagree, their real function should be education)

#3. Schools spend too much attention on the wrong subjects.
(strongly agree, most kids are taught to be worker-consumers rather than how to think and the basics of debate and how to research and so forth)

So, from strongly disagree to strongly agree. And that's one of the simple ones. :)

New My "numbers"
Economic Left/Right: -6.00
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.79

I'm comfortable with that, although I beilieve myself more right on economic issues.

Like may of the posters, though, some of the questions were poor, and my answers might change depending on how I interpreted the underlying meaning on a given day.

I can just imagine Marlowe's numbers...

Taken it a couple times...usually comes out somewhere around these numbers.

Not surprised.

Questions are not the best. Public funding of broadcasting can be supported as a national (civil) defense measure...not the intent of the question. Training in the arts >is< essential and not mutually exclusive to career training...etc...most of which has been covered by others in this thread.

All in all its probably pretty close...probably am a little more centrist economically...a little further our Libby...but close enough for shits and giggles.

"Ambiguous" would have been better than some of the "Agree" or "Disagree" answers I gave. Still, I am very proud that I (at least so far) have the highest "Left" score ;-)

New Too many of the questions suck, but WTF -
Pretty much as Brandioch parsed the one on education - which should be 3 (or maybe 5) separate issues. At least they are attempting to find some sort of replacement for the absurdity of

Left/Liberal/Pinko VS Right/Reactionary/*P
* 'Patriot', as in the last refuge of a scoundrel, per Dr. J's dictionary.

I think the numbers prolly suck as badly as the inane idea that a human intelligence can be numbered with 3 digits (2 for Republican Leaders du jour, not even counting Dan Quayle). But since they are trying, I stifled the yawn and got:

L/R -4.88
A/L -7.64

The false precision is quite misleading; given the siller Qs, I'd say a reasonable result might show a stat. interval (like |----|) Possibly with 3x as many Qs, one might.. justify 2 digits of faux-precision. Still.. we expect too damn much from stupid numbers, when speaking of attitudes towards actual life, a billion personal scams, and rampant inculcation of superstitions.

With some careful refinement, more and better questions - I guess it could approach being workable as an "attitude inventory". I esp. like the Famous Names ref. points. You know that when you get close to Maggie T. that you're a Repo for sure; if nearer Gandhi - at least you haven't totally succumbed to personal-Greed 101, and your fav hobby might not be shopping. So where was Tom Paine? Or any of the Bush or Gore Clan on that map? Ashcroft? (a +11 on Authoritarian? or does he just sound like a Pope)

So then: lose the numbers. Emulate that fine map of "PS Warz" [Billy VS Civilization] and group oneself near certain famous personages, whose overall attitude seems closest to one's own. Let's use the knowledge of folks like the author of the famous map/graph of Napoleon's march VS troops left VS [lots else]. (I have a copy somewhere)

First time I'd ever seen this.

Like others have said, too many of the questions could have been "I don't care", or "it's wrong, but not illegal," but those weren't options. I think my economic is in the ballpark, but I'm more libertarian that that number indicates.

Brian Bronson
New Oh goody - another one. :-)
It pegs me as Economic Left/Right -4.75 and Authoritarian/Libertarian -3.08

I didn't like some of the questions, though. I counted perhaps a dozen I would have said "No Opinion" or "Neutral". But the FAQ explained why they didn't do that. OTOH, an "Ambiguous" option could be interesting.

I also suspected a US slant, especially on page 1 and also with the school questions. But again, the FAQ suggests they tried not to do that.
