There's a joke?
It is entirely consistent with my understanding of Scripture and of first-century history. I have no problems with James being (one of) Jesus' younger half-brother.
Wade.
P.S. *And* I know that the name "Jesus" is a corruption of the Jewish "Y'shua". :-)

It is not a corruption
Joke is that if Jesus is named on the box it is a fake. "This name \ufffdJesus\ufffd commonly used in Christianity today did not exist and would not be spelled with the letter \ufffdJ\ufffd until about 500 years ago. This article will also discuss the grammatical errors involved in the transliteration of Yahshua into Greek and Latin, which radically changed the form of Yahshua\ufffds name." [link|http://www.plim.org/JesusOrigin.htm|http://www.plim.org/JesusOrigin.htm] oops if I had my brother ashes I would have used his real name not bill brother of leech I have no problem with james and yeshua being brothers for after all Jesus was a Jewish boy that went into his fathers business, thanx, bill

Well, the box was translated from Aramaic
So the fact that an English news agency carried it as "Jesus" means nothing.

great article and pictures but one more problem
it would be like finding a tombstone here saying here lies bill son of bob brother of john. Not trying to debunk but placing the find into prospective. thanx, bill

That's the whole point of it, isn't it?
The fact that his brother was important enough to get billing on his tomb as well?

There's a story on K5 with more information.
[link|http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/10/22/133850/26|Ancient Inscription about Jesus found].
There's even [link|http://www.kuro5hin.org/comments/2002/10/22/133850/26/12#12|a post] with the Aramaic transliterated.
