New RIP Ivan, A Wolf for all Seasons
My old wolf-friend, Ivan.. so old that he died some days ago, in rain + sunshine in his favorite spot, in the hills around Napa with his Person: the alpha-female biped who administered tough love when he needed same: he Was a real Wolf, after all. RIP lovely creature whose nose I was privileged to lick-back, as sealed our bond as peers.. despite his towering over me, with those giant paws on my shoulders. His massive size, strength was never menacing--he was a pussycat to us.

(As to what certain deranged 'States' and their gun-besotted primitives are doing to their wolves/Ivan's cohorts: I shall not ponder next the continuing deterioration/dismantling of the dis-USA on so many levels, until ... a decent time, post-Ivan, shall have elapsed.) There will be much Work ahead for us all, merely to save the innocents. One at a time.

He had a full life, able to run through the hills, wrestle with his Person/Be Himself. It will have to do..

New Condolences, Ashton. :-(
New Genuinely sorry to hear that, Ashton. My condolences as well.
New Re: RIP Ivan, A Wolf for all Seasons
I had the good fortune to have a lady wolf Tisha to bond with me many years ago. I understand and feel your pain.

New Condolences!

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

-- Isaac Asimov
New Sorry to hear that.
New Commiserations!
New Thanks all. Good omen today..
Picking up critter supplies.. a new card in a spot I rarely glance at, and with an unusual subject:

In background of dark grey-greens, a silhouette of a wolf, howling..
Some words from Chief Dan George, across a giant moon above; inside a larger panorama,
which alone, stands as Art. (Need to order another one after I send; even envelope shows another view.)

May the stars carry away your sadness
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty
May hope forever wipe away your tears

(Dan George really knew about all those things.)

All those shooters ... who never knew a single wolf or anything at all, about their family structure...
How to educate assassins?
New ah no, good wolfers know their prey
I have never had the need to shoot a wolf. Wolves and ravens do understand that you will share groceries. In cattle country wolves can be a problem. My solution is to trap and relocate said wolves to the western side of the Sierra Madres.

New Late to the wake
My own wolflike dog, adopted in late adolescence, is now in vigorous middle age, and each afternoon as I return home from BDS (at this time of year practically dark), I feel too exhausted and demoralized to stir from the premises, but Ravi drills me with his guilt-gaze and I think: in ten years you would give anything to have his companionship at the corner park again, and we go to the corner and toss the squeaky-ball back and forth.

If I knew for certain that Ravi could be reliably cloned for $25K, I would finance this from a Home Equity Line of Credit in a second.

cordially,
New Sharing this vantage has illustrated to me comments of the sages,
("reading them in their words") to the effect: when, frequently asked about Love, so many have responded in this vein: ~~ "Begin with a pet, before you imagine that you can comprehend what it might mean elsewhere."

While that's the short-form of some dissertations, my experience verifies something about that, while also illuminating that other difficult word, wisdom (thus why they are called Sages.) Those who can/do chain a former family-member to an outdoor 'house' through the winter, never had a 'pet', just a somewhat temporarily-amusing possession. I was gratified to hear of one beneficent consequence of the New Orleans flooding: the plight of those Forced! to leave behind their significant-Others, in order to be evacuated.. finally it was recognized what that meant.

Henceforth, even in the dis-USA, one's companion Shall Be accommodated (don't know how universally has that been recognized ... yet.) But hearing of this change did evoke just a a few moments of fondly imagining pre-Murican times.. There's always that price, though: we outlive them. I don't even try to parse that.
