New Ok... I'll bite this time.
Breaking Bad is the story of Walter White, a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer at the beginning of the series. He turns to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine in order to secure his family's financial future before he dies.

In other words, he can't pay for his fricken Health Care and turns to crime to make sure his "utter ruin" doesn't happen.

If that same story happened in the UK, he would just go back to teaching or retire... etc.

New I really havent seen the show so bear with me
so some middle aged guy gets a terminal disease, if he had bought life insurance there would never have been a show, I guess he didnt check the box on his his teachers union box for life insurance.

I bought life insurance in my 30's, still paying for some. No drama there I guess

New Yeah.. and IF Hamlet hadn't seen a ghost.. ba-dum, twitch
New I call bullshit. How stupid do you think we are...
...to think we'll believe that YOU are as stupid as you (so often) try to come off as? Or are you just saying you're so LAZY you couldn't even be bothered to READ A FUCKING FOUR-PANE COMIC?

Because if you have an IQ even slightly above that of a garden slug, then panes two and three TELL YOU what the show is about: An American who can't afford his medical bills.

Please stop this stupid shit, willya? It's annoying as Hell.

New sure I read the comic
fucking pointless shit about the american health care system. After Greg's explanation of what the show is about, it made the comic even more fucking stupid. Even the lowest paid teacher in a shithole in rural mississippi has health insurance because they are government employees. Even without health insurance it would have taken 6k max to discover that he has untreatable terminal lung cancer. His fucking medical bills at that point become very cheap opiates until he dies. Being a teacher, his school district would have offered short and long term disability that would have paid up to 60% of his salary until he died or his pension kicked in. Now according to that stupid fucking comic, thats exactly what the brit would get. All that strip shows is how ignorent eurogits are about anything american.

New about the show
"An American who can't afford his medical bills" is actually just the set-up. Many Americans can't afford decent healthcare. Very few go on in consequence to become meth cooks and criminal kingpins, or to commit or arrange dozens of murders. Also, the protagonist's initial motive is not merely to cover his treatment expenses (that option becomes available early on; he spurns the offer out of a mixture of pride and spite) but to "provide for his family." By this descending point in the story arc (perhaps half a dozen episodes to go) his undertaking has long since become an end in itself, continued long after accumulating so much cash that merely laundering it would be a fulltime job until the cancer finishes him off.
