Anyway, manager for Australian cricketer Brett Lee has a video of Brett Lee dismissing Courtney Walsh at the Gabba in 2000, with a ball recorded at 161.8 km/h.

Ooh, 0.8km/h faster. Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi, etc :-)

So, non-cricket-fans, I'm curious - how fast is the average Baseball?

New Baseball speed
The record pitch is [link|http://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/rb_guin.shtml|100.9 mph (162.3 km/h)].

Your garden variety fastball is about 90 mph (140 km/h). (Some pitchers throw them a few mph faster.) Of course not all pitches are fastballs, an excellent summary of the standard pitches can be found [link|http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/pdf/pitchingpage.pdf|here].

Also note that these pitches are from a standing man who typically will throw 100-150 (or more) of these over a few hours.
