Just checked it against my Rb standard: 2 sec = web overhead
What I saw was, a listed time on main page/LRPD for most recent post, that was ~8 min ahead! of my also pretty accurate clock. [??] Anyway, seems we're both on NIST time - not that anyone cares a lot, even if it were a few minutes bonkers..

Actually, that's...
...apt-get install ntp.
ntpdate only runs once (usually at boot, to sync the clock).
...OK, raise your hands (and back away from the keyboard slowly) if you thought I was going to bait Peter with an "rpm -Uvh foo" ;-)

Re: Actually, that's...
rpm -Uvh [link|http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/redhat-7.2-en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/ntp-4.1.0-4.i386.rpm|http://www.mirror.a...0-4.i386.rpm]
and you better pray you got the [link|http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/redhat-7.2-en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/ntp-4.1.0-4.i386.rpm%5Bpeek%5D|deps] installed :)
(BTW, the UK Mirror Service absolutely rocks and it's quick, even for you colonials)
I've got ntpdate hooked up on an hourly cron job. Simpler than futzing around with a full ntp server.

*Please* make those into links?
One long URL makes the whole thread unreadable...
Thanks, Ben

Re: *Please* make those into links?
It's not a link.
That's the command line you could use to download and install the RPM file from that particular server.

As much as I hate to say it, one point to Microsoft:
Infernal Exploiter breaks the line on one of the many hyphens in it.
(Too bad not all over-long lines people post here are guaranteed to have hyphens in tem.)
