Try a smaller partition on the tail of your disk
Dual boot for a bit, make sure your previous docs are accessible.
With enough space, you might decide to keep this method of access. I like to keep previous isolated versions around as long as possible.
Has anybody tried upgrading ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04?
