Welcome to IWETHEY!

New What is your favorite beverage...
Of the alcoholic variety?

Be specific. If you like wine, list type, vintner, vintage, etc. If you like beer, likewise brewer, style, bottle or can. If you like a mixed drink, please list the ingredients.

My favorite used to be white russians (1 shot vodka, 1 shot kahlua, fill remaining highball glass with milk or half & half) but lately I tasted my first Buttery Nipple (1/2 shot butterscotch schnapps, 1/2 shot Bailey's Irish Cream) I think I have found a new drink!

Cheers!

When you consider measures to lengthen your life you have to balance that with quality of life issues.

And consider that those measures don't work most of the time.

And consider that you'll probably die of something entirely unexpected anyway - something not at all related to the measures you've been taking.
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New Actually.....
the night I thought I was going to die, I got shit-faced and had the aforementioned, lip-smacking libation. When I read more about Celiac Disease and its associated consequences, the liver issue was one of them. Ergo, once I get going with the gluten-free life, the liver issue will abate and I can drink to my little heart's content (within moderation of course!).

BTW, distilled beverages are considered gluten-free!

I just can't have regular beer. No great loss there.

Tee hee.

Also, how's your Atkin's workin' for ya as a lifestyle, Big Boy ;-) (poink in da eyeballs...nyuk nyuk nyuk!)

And one more thing...answer the question!

Amy

New Not too bad
I've broken it twice in the last 6 weeks.
Once for my steps mother's 80th birthday party.
Another on a pure whim last night - I wanted a handful of pistascios.
I've lost about 25 pounds so far and have another 20 to go.

I've just ordered a couple of pounds of coconut flour from netrition. You should look into it for gluten free baking.

Um question? Was there a different one?
New you missed the bash, he drinks rockstar now

New Beer mostly
I like lots of different types: stouts, ales, porters, lagers, etc.

My current faves are:
Blue Moon Belgian White - with a slice of orange, very tasty
Guiness, of course!
Fat Tire - reddish ale from a local microbrew
Bass Ale
And sometimes I'll knock back a cold Bud or Coors - especially refreshing on a hot day.

Edit: and I like the VERY occasional cocktail: vodka mixed with whatever's handy (7up, Red Bull, lemonade..); or a bourbon and coke, whiskey and coke, whiskey and 7; or a nice cognac with a cigar... be back later, need to run to the liquor store.

New Oh, too many and too changeable to pin down . . .
. . though I almost always enjoy a good single malt scotch whiskey ("paint stripper" according to Peter W, but we know he has "issues").

Armenian beer is excellent, took a 6-pack of Kotayk to a gathering last night and it was appreciated by all who tried it.

I've got some really fine 150 proof tequila but I don't feel like going out to the garage and digging it out from where I've got the bottles hid right now to tell what brand.

Now I remember finishing a flat round bottle of Virreges aged amber tequila (only 88 proof though) some years back and wishing I'd bought more when I could get it cheap. A few months later, while cleaning out the back of a cupboard, I found another five bottles, so apparently I did.

Old Overholt rye whisky is good (though there are better) and Marnier Cognac (the stuff they make Grand Marnier out of) is excellent (though there is better). Lesser cognac I keep on hand as cold medicine (it doesn't make you better but you don't notice).

And for when I want to project myself into an alternate reality, I keep a bottle of Ouzo on hand (R. Thomopoulos & Sons).

And down in the crawl space under the house is a case of vintage port that was absolutely fabulous 15 years ago. Some day, while I'm down there replacing iron pipes with copper I should pull out a bottle and be transported. It's been on hold for a cold winter day with a roaring fire and a nice warm (and deserving) chicky, but such a chicky has never appeared so I might as well swill it.

Sweet stuff I'm not that into, but I have a bunch of ancient bottles of Mandarine Napolion that is most excellent (took me a while to find a bottle the silverfish hadn't stripped the tasty label from so I could get the spelling). I've used it more as a flavoring for pork but it's excellent for sipping too. And a mango liqueur, Mango de Sabroso is precious, but I'm almost out.

For desert, straight from the freezer, Carlsbad Becherovka (Becher bitters - Czech Republic) is hellish hard to beat - I've only got a few bottles left - I shoulda bought more.

But let me tell you about this bottle of corn whisky Bob Barnes gave me. Bob and Lou went on vacation and left their house in the keep of a young Mexican lad. He had a party and their liquor stash was drained to the last drop - except this bottle of genuine American corn whisky - as close to certified moonshine as you'll ever find with a revnoo sticker on it.

And I do have some tequila brought back from Mexico by Stew, a friend and client. I imbibe a few drops now and then just for drill. It's "bottled" in the exact same plastic cube container 90 weight hypoid gear oil used to come in - and I think it's related.

Well, there's more, a lot more, but sipping all this stuff to refresh my memory has mellowed me out, and Symphonia Antartica has just finished, so I think I'm going to bed now.

New Most Entertaining Story Award!!!
I'm sitting here, giggling till my sides hurt. (okay, not hard for me, but still, I appreciate the amount of effort you put into your response. Makes me want to fly out there to sample all your listed goodies and hear some more great stories :-)

/me also wonders what hoot it would be to treasure hunt for more bottles of distilled goodness in your house

New 18 year Glenmorangie neat or on the rocks.
Really, any 10+ year old Single Malt Scotch, will do.

Plus I really like Captain Morgan and Coke.

Oh and really well made Long Island Iced Teas.

A Rusty Nail ain't too bad either.

Cranberry juice, soda water and Vodka.

New My preference is spirits.
For a while, my favourite was Cointreau and Lemonade. I also liked Aura, which was a Cointreau-based pre-mixed drink, but you can't get it now.

More recently, someone had me try Rum and Coke. And I've loved it ever since. For preference, I'll choose Bacardi and Coke, but Bundaberg and Coke is okay, too.

Not into beer. It doesn't do anything for me.

And as for wine... I prefer a good, dark red. My absolute favourite is called Limelight from Hazelgrove Winery in South Australia, but it's rare as hen's teeth to get, only comes cleanskin and I guess would be up around AU$60 a bottle if they sold it in stores. I only had it the once. It has a chocolately flavour. Next best is Hazelgrove's normal red - I can't remember if it's a Merlot or a Shiraz or a blend or something else again. Again, dark, lots of tannins - leaves a tidemark in your glass. :-) It's a red that needs to breath a while before you drink it; it gets significantly better when you let it do that.

I'll drink a white, note, but it needs body. Fortunately, that seems to be in vogue at the moment. But those light, almost watery whites are useless.

Wade.

New Isnt that Youngs Double Chocolate Stout good?
I had some the night Seamus bailed on me. It was smooth, chocolatey goodness.

Last weekend I bought a pumpkin spice stout. Dont remember which brewery, but is was also very good. I could really taste the spices, which surprisingly combined very nicely with the beer.

But my all-time favorite libation is a top shelf margarita with plenty of salt, plenty of lime, and a swarthy bartender named Juan. Ole!
New They should call it "Double Yummy"
