Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Nope, X is running.
I have no problem sshing to another box via the xterm and getting the display back.
But neither terminal.app or iterm provide the DISPLAY variable (even when using -X).

Also, how could they. Neither could execute local X apps as well.
New when using ssh -X on my solaris box
I ssh -X boxley@ipaddy
get a nice little box.
echo $display, returns blank
/usr/X/bin/xclock, returns a nice lttle clock to my desktop. I think ssh handles the addressing,
lets look in sshd_config
11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10

so my display would be mylocalIP:10.0
hope that helps
thanks,
bill

New Box, I KNOW you are trying to be helpful
But you're not!!!!! you're driving me insane!!!
These are all baby steps that I'm fully aware of.
But if you are coming from an OS-X 10.4 box, maybe you have something set differently from mine that allows it to work.

So, from the beginning: Are you currently on a OS-x 10.4 box?
New I do not assume you know any "baby steps"
and have found out that I quite often dont know baby steps and find it useful in some of these threads. Now one more have you done
sshIntobox$ ./xclock -display boxIamreallyon:thesSettingOfXdisplayOffset.0
what happens when you do that? No I use an older version of OSX
thanx,
bill

New Export DISPLAY yourself
and it should work.

New Sneaky
#1 - create an a real xterm - ssh into target system.
#2 - echo $DISPLAY - this will change on every session going in.
#3 - launch iTerm.
#4 - from iTerm, ssh in to the same target box.
#5 - set the DISPLAY to the above one listed.
#6 - xcalc - works.

I guess it is a usable one-of-kludge - but not something I would be willing to do on an ongoing basis.

I could setup a script to be executed on login. If the DISPLAY value is set, save it. If it is not, then use the last saved one (assuming it is from an active "correct" connection) (dangerous!)

Thanks.
