Welcome to IWETHEY!

New For those of Atkins bend, I bring you:
[link|http://nowfoods.com/index.php/Stevia/cats/cat_id/880|Stevia]

Quite from page:
The stevia plant originally came from the rain forests of Brazil and Paraguay. It is now grown in those areas, as well as in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and China. It is most widely used as a non-sugar sweetener in food and drink, particularly because it does not appear to have any calories or affect on blood sugar like most natural sweeteners (like sugar or honey).
I have intention of buying this in packet form and trying it.

I stumble on to it from going to this [link|http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=04/05/03/161237|Newsforge Article], which in and of itself is a Good read. Towards the end I clicked on [link|http://thelinuxbox.org/|this link] that took me to [link|http://thelinuxbox.org/|The Linux Box] website. I then perused the typically site stuff (some pretty good stuff there to boot) and came across [link|http://thelinuxbox.org/Stevia.html|this article on Stevia]. In that article I found the [link|http://nowfoods.com/index.php/Stevia/cats/cat_id/880|Link to Now Foods Stevia page]. I then looked for local outlets... lo-and-behold There are.

The best part is the "suggested serving size" is 1/32 Teaspoon (28 mg) when purchase in the 1 lb container. Considering, the "sweetness" is 100-300 times the sweetness of sugar.

Also gathered from the site Now foods make it: Hypoallergenic and free of sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg or preservatives.

If this holds up as I hope it does... Maybe I can give Diet Mountain Dew a boot[1]. Amoung other things.

[1] Yes, this also means I'll be going through withdrawls from the Caffiene.
New One of the local nurseries here has it . .
. . live in 5" pots. I sampled a leaf and I have to say it is damned sweet all right.

New The vernerable "pinch"
Nobody measures in the kitchen unless they are baking. It only takes a few trys to determine the proper pinch of <stuff> for a given recipe. Go light initially as it's easier to put in than take out.
New A pinch (1/8 t) is too much.
A pinch is 9.5 drops according to [link|http://www.askthemeatman.com/measurement_conversion_calculato1.htm|this]. But it's not a liquid, so that doesn't help much....

One could simply use pre-measured packets like [link|http://nowfoods.com/?action=itemdetail&item_id=16490|these] (from the original link). ;-)

Cheers,
Scott.
New No no... too stochastic...
In the sense I meant it, depending on the recipe, it could be just a tiny bit between the thumb and forefinger, or half a handful.
When I curl my hand, it makes a depression that holds a teaspoon. When I open my hand more it becomes a tablespoon. If you have to be anal about measurement, use aliquot portions and things will usually work out. Unless you're baking, in which case all bets are off.
New I have it
Saw it mentioned on the web a while ago. Did a lot of reading.
Bought it from my local health food store. Got the dried crushed leaves, not the extract.

Took a TINY pinch.
Put it on my tongue.
BLOW YOUR MOUTH OFF SWEET!

Walked around, had other people try it.
Some people loved it. Some hated it, thought there was a saccharine like bitter after taste.

Overweight people on diets loved it.
Skinny people not on diets hated it.
New Excellent!

To deny the indirect purchaser, who in this case is the ultimate purchaser, the right to seek relief from unlawful conduct, would essentially remove the word consumer from the Consumer Protection Act
