Australian Food?
Burbank Chamber of Commerce mixer was at the Outback Steakhouse again. Food served was BBQ'd mini-drumsicks (replaced by BBQ'd chicken cubes when they ran out), pig ribs and cubes of beef.
The chicken mini-drumsticks were quite good, the cubed chicken average. The pig ribs were very good indeed, and the cubes of beef were good and respectably rare. Not a green in sight, though, and I craved (made and ate) a salad when I got home.

"eating at hooters"
I think they're on the wrong floor. There's a taco stand in the basement.

Of course, I will not be able to pass judgement . .
. . on Australian cuisine until I've procured and sampled a jar of Vegemite. I have located an Australian products outlet in the state of Washington that does list Vegemite in sizes up to "pail".
Interestingly, the site has a prominant notice that a number of Australian food items are out of stock due to the new FDA bio-terrorism laws.

vegemite taste like
crush a few beef boillion cubes and stir olive oil to a paste like consistancy. Thats the flavor I remember from an Aussie gal in Anchorage that alway had a jar in her desk for emergencies. Our Ozzies can compare that description for accuracy or edit. thanx, bill

Hmmmm . . . a little more research . . .
. . finds that Vegemite is very similar to that quintissential British comestible Marmite - they're both yeast extracts. This reminds me of an exchange reported between my (formerly) world traveling friends Tom and Peggy and a native when they were in England.
Tom, "Yuk! this is awful"
Brit, "Well, you Americans prefer sweets for breakfast and we British prefer savories".
Peggy, "You call this slime 'savory'?"

Vegemite is simply incomparable to Marmite
Though Peter and I may argue which product goes where on the Delicious <---> Inedible scale. :)

Vegemite is the wussy version. Marmite is the real thing.

you will have to try seal oil sometime
I like it. It is used like ketchup in the far north as a flavor enhancer. Most Qassicqs (whites) dont like it. I persueded my buddy to try a taste one time, he ruminated and said he would commit suicide before being forced to eat that again. thanx, bill

Yes, procuring seal oil is among my mid-distance goals.
I quoted here once an Eskimo lady I heard on an American Indian show who ended her dictation of a recipe, "It's delicious, but then anything cooked in seal oil would be delicious".

You need to get your friends upgraded.
They clearly have no taste.
