Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I Like It... and
It meets moral standards for Really Old Testaments like Genghis's Rules .. for going to strange new countries, meeting interesting people and killing them.
(oops, that was a recruiting poster actually)

After all:

It's a lie. What's M$'s every use of an English sentence?
It harms a bizness. "" "" "" - every Ad?
It's unscrupulous. "" "" "" - nuff said.

An eye for an eyeball. Sounds fair to me. Time to make fiends.. with a spammer?
New Speaking of recruiting posters...
My company has several contracts with the
"nation's largest personell organization".

So I'm talk to this HUGE guy in uniform.
We are touring the company, which includes an area
with a recruiting poster. The poster shows a
twilight scene, with a small boat filled with
marines coming ashore.

The guy zones. Goes totally still and silent
for about 30 seconds. Then he shakes it off,
and continues walking.

I asked him if he was OK.

He said: Yeah, I just was remembering what I do for a living.

Me: What?

Him: I kill people.

New Umm..___________________mostly.
It's just never clear though, how many earnestly hope that .. they shall (like a cop) most often keep a peace of some sort. Kinda "emergency backups" - perpetually? Most brass are first to speak of the horrors, having witnessed same. But.. ??

Same rationale in those silos, I guess. And who can say either is 'invalid'? (Yeah of course too; logical place to go for the testosterone crazed, with Samurai swords next to the tiger skins on the wall. Useful when lots of turf to be defended, gained or oil-pumped.)

{sigh}

Went to military school.. not good at authorit(ies). Never have made sgt. w/o being damn good bugler. At least there they couldn't shoot you for disobedience. (Never remotely tempted to take the West Point appointment available, though).

Guess I've met enough gems (like Adm. Carroll at Center for Defense Information, in DC) and some other er 'wise' ones -- I no longer make hasty judgments about anyone in the military. Til they open mouths a bit.

Cheers,

Ashton
New Past and current military
people are present in numbers on another board I visit (ref. on request).

They seem to vary about like the general population, except that the median is skewed a bit toward the "active" rather than couch potatoes, as you might expect. (I was Navy during Viet Nam. I still think the draft should be used, not as a way to fill the ranks with mindless killers -- not so many of those available, really, here in the U.S. -- as a way to keep the military looking more like the society in general.)

But the, er., general ethic seems to be much like the EM mentioned -- "kill people and smash things, and damn good at it." Sounds horrid, I suppose, but the intent, really, is to emphasize civilian control. Our military kills people and smashes things; they do not assert the privilege of selecting who and/or what, and in fact insist that the politicians do that -- and on their privilege of bitching about the selections and applicable rules.

Ric
