New I'll drink to that
Fat chance, alas..

The organized religions are extensions of bizness, the root faith of capitalism, whose creed includes the idea that things are what is important: amassing, disposing of, and guarding same (and gloating as the pile grows).

Inconsistent with silence, introspection or umm (self knowledge ?). That's er sissy.. Real Men pillage!

It would require a Huge *SHOCK* for such an idea to replace the intertwined carrots / social punishments (for being 'poor' - the Real largest crime in Murica and now elsewhere, as it spreads like a virus)

{pity}

New I think they're much closer to politics than business...
myself. (In response to:)

The organized religions are extensions of bizness, the root faith of capitalism, whose creed includes the idea that things are what is important: amassing, disposing of, and guarding same (and gloating as the pile grows).

At least if one takes Catholicism and its history as the representative example.

Then Protestant off-shoots could be regarded as rival political factions, etc.

I haven't thought about this too deeply, but even so I think it's a better comparison than to business.

Cheers,
Scott.
New No argument here..
If you look at the wholesale purchase of legislators, via PACs and the various means of $-transmission amongst the ruling miniscule group (ever consolidating by merger, ex-pols <--> bizness* before&after); add-in the techno- perfecting of propaganda/spin, as would make G\ufffdbbels proud:

What difference is there between bizness and politics - as actually done (not theory) ?

As the churches remain silent as always, about the social and other consequences of the Scam - allegedly their turf? - just make it a kind of umm

Trinity, then.

* catch last Sunday's Doonesbury re who's sleeping in the Lincoln bedroon.. now ?

That's what you sound like, opposing fountainheads everywhere. As a matter of principle.

And suffer more as a result.

Perhaps the suffering isn't quite acute enough.

One has to want to be free of suffering to take steps to eliminate it.

12 steppers understand this.

Moving onto my boat was a wonderful experience - I have parked nearly all my posessions in a warehouse in Denver. I live on a sailboat in Sausalito with just what I need. Space constraints have me looking carefully at new acquisitions.

I find I'm a lot happier this way. Much less stress.

Oh yeah, having enough water, propane, food, and diesel fuel aboard to not care if the infrastructure is working or not is a nice bonus. If stuff really gets too hairy, leaving is easy. Its also kinda earthquake proof. :-)
New Earthquake proof?
Not to cause any panic, but have you heard of [link|http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/hazard/tsuintro.shtml#occur|tsunamis?]
Locally destructive tsunamis may be generated by subaerial and submarine landslides into bays or lakes. Lituya Bay, Alaska, has been the site of several landslide- generated tsunamis, including one in 1958 that produced a splash wave that removed trees to a height of 525 m. It also caused a tsunami of at least 50 m in the bay. The 1964 Prince William Sound earthquake triggered at least four submarine landslides, which accounted for 71 to 82 of the 106 fatalities in Alaska for the 1964 event.
