New Version of Knoppix...
* V3.2-2003-04-09 - Bugfix/Workaround: Use mousedev for ALL USB-mice (hopefully fixes some problems that were reported with USB mice) - Deleted most of the Gnome 1 stuff due to space problems. Gone (until a Gnome2 version exists and fits): evolution, libguppi16, gcdmaster, gnome-games and kino - Added Flash-Installer from Fabian Franz (KNOPPIX -> Utilities) - Added alsa-Option and drivers (untested), contributed by Fabian Franz. You can now boot with knoppix alsa=es1938 (for an es1938-based card), or just "knoppix alsa" for autodetection, to try if your soundcard works better with ALSA. ALSA is known to hang or freeze the system with some boards. Use at your own risk. - Update for the german KNOPPIX-talk (PDF)

Ack!
- Deleted most of the Gnome 1 stuff due to space problems. Gone (until a Gnome2 version exists and fits): evolution[...] That program right there is one of the best ways to get people off of Winblows and onto Linux. Here's hoping they fix that issue soon.

New versions come out faster than I can download
I had just gotten the March edition downloaded and now the April one is out. Here we go again...

Speaking of which ...
I've given a knoppix disk and the full Debian set to a coworker. He tried the Debian install, but it was too far over his head. When he left last night he said he'd try the Knoppix disk just to get a sense of it.
I'd like to be able to tell him how to install Knoppix to his machine, but the instructions over on the TWiki assume you've installing it over an existing Linux installation. This is going to take over the entire hard drive from a current W2K install. Any suggestions?
If not, then I'm going to go grab Progeny for him.

A bit of hand-holding will still be required....
As it goes in doing cfdisk... after that it is pretty standard... Just make sure he knows that the Root Password is CaSe-sEnSiTiVe... and exactingly that way...

Umm, little more detail please
Tried to find this on the knoppix site, but no luck. I'm assuming when you start with the Knoppix disk in you get a boot loader, and if you type in "knoppix 2" it will install?
Also, when doing either of the install methods, does it fix the fact that by default Knoppix mounts everything read-only?

Just grabbed it
and starting playing with the CD today.
ManOManIsThisK00L!
It has all the programming tools I use in my classes, plus VNC, which I use to share my desktop. (I finally looked up Desktop Sharing in KDE and this looks *perfect* for what I need.)
My students were intrigued by the demo. Some of them would like to try Linux but don't want to modify their Windows installations so I'm handing these discs out like party favors.
I could run an entire class without hard drives with this...<boggle>
Anyway, I'm teaching a Linux network security class next term and I think the first thing I'm going to hand them is a copy of this baby. ("Want security? How about a read-only OS?")
So how does the Knoppix Terminal Server work? Haven't found the docs for that yet...
