Welcome to IWETHEY!

New No score.
I don't judge, just try to understand. I expect the same in return. If I don't get it *COUGH*Marlowe*COUGH* then I flame. ;)
After 9/11, Bush made two statements:
1. "Terrorists hate America because America is a land of freedom and opportunity."
2. "We intend to attack the root causes of terrorism."

Sounds like everything is going according to plan.
New So then....
Do you understand?

I really believe this war was not needed... "other means" of Force are/were available... Chose the most dramatic one...

I believe that ALL of a sudden Saddamn and 25+ of his top people coming up missing would have been a better play. More impressive... ultimately less costly...

He was using encrypted communications that we have a key for... we coulda pin-pointed him... and taken him and others out easily (more easily than transporting 300K Troops and spending US$75B that is).

But oh well... gotta support the troops now, without question.

New I do understand.
Can't say I 100% agree - as you know, I have serious problems w/this U.S. admin, along with the reasoning behind their actions. There is no question in my mind that Mr. Hussein has to go - along with all the other petty dictators. The problem is, a) what do we replace them with and b) are the people in those countries socially capable of operating in a non-dictatorial society?

I don't think that the current President or his advisors have impressed me in any way, shape, or form, that they are capable of looking at the long view. Instead, it seems to be one "keep in power" move after another, while using the distraction of a so-called "just" war to allow their supporters to perform a wholesale looting of our country via tax cuts, environmental policy shifts, and the passage of some of the worst legislation in the history of the United States. Yeah, we haven't done anything that approaches rounding up every single Japanese citizen and throwing them in camps yet, but the powers that Ashcroft 'n crew are seeking seem to be remarkably well-tuned to grabbing any "leaders" that may pop up within the populace opposed to the status quo.

I do support the troops. I just don't support their boss, who is doing damage on a scale IMO not seen since Nixon to this country's democracy, at a time when it is most vulnerable.

P.S. Yes, lopping off the top 25 heads would have been quite impressive. Would have liked to see it. ;)

New Glad you do...
I agree that the Power Ploys are in full esteem... Overall... I would have picked a better Republican to run the Country... I could name a few... But that would just get people all upset.

Ashcroft and crew scare me quiet. Why else you think I have thier "Cyberer-Strateregy" on every post I do.

Let's just say my percentages I disagree with are over the 50% mark... one (which? you'll have to guess) is more than 70% I dislike and abhorr.

Why else would I call myself a pseudo-supporter... I can't STAND the Democrat rigth now... the Republicans that are actively seeking (something of which no-body knows) I don't trust. All the good ones (or as good as they get) are all fading out of politics or are getting to old to think sharply or even just going home and forgetting poilitics altogether...

Me? Next Election... I am voting for the candidate named "None of the Above"

New Possibly if you ignored the really Stupid labels
you might find, out of 280 M or so: someone worthy of translating your vision for the future into.. something manageable - without accompanying nausea (?)
D'ya think?

(Does *anyone* have any idea what Demo/Repub might mean anymore? let alone Conserv/Librul Yes/No 1/0 digital BS cha cha cha -- except, intentional obfuscation of all human valuez into ugly polarities signifying Nothing.)

I don't, anyway - never could get a Conserv. to explain what s/he wanted to 'conserve'; but I know what a "liberal education" used to mean - back before it became EdjaKayshun, that is.

Ashton

Hell, maybe *you* can run.. OK - walk anyway.
Screw party labels - I want an actual Person with more than the IQ of a tick;
Oh.. and s/he doesn't have to be Pretty.
New If you think...
Which I know you do Ashton...

Do you really believe that there is SOMEONE that could actually run... Actually make a difference... Actually *DO* something good. Without pulling punches... While giving punches to the right and left...

Peel back those Ruminations... those Ashes of Cruft... Those Potent Wells... Those Cheneys of binding...

Do you think we could ever find some one like that?

Since corporations are the equivelent of human but they have no "concience" they are by definition sociopaths
New I believe there are *hundreds*
who could do better than -anybody recent since FDR?-

OK, I'll take yours for a serious question of the non-BS sort.

Just imagine all the (few) genuinely wise people you have encountered briefly.. in life. And you're just One person. How could what you suggest happen?

IF.. our fucked system actually could tolerate real competence. (If we did not reward so highly - its opposite; even Lionize the Perps!)
IF.. we actually meant what we claim we Stand For, or lie to our kids - that we do.
IF.. Corporate power, the New Scourge of Humanity, were summarily divorced from "personhood" - and a firewall built between
Corporate and || Congress / Court / Presidency / Press - the Fourth Estate.

YESSSS!

None of which is possible until:
We can again elect representatives of (the many factions of) the people who live here. Re-Respect Language, thus permit honest and full *debate*.
Dis-elect representatives of largest Donors / inevitably Corporate in spirit or in fact. Remember RHIP? Left-over from Kings.

This needs reform of HOW people are elected; no one has an answer to the conundrum that: the lackeys must FIRST dis-elect Themselves. As of 2003.

Neither do I. The Constitution recommends.. nay Makes It A Duty: to revolt when a government fails to honor Constitutional principles. The President takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. WELLLLL?
Ditto the USSC - who also may be impeached, individually.

Meanwhile, all you or I or anyone can 'do' - is Wing It. It sure as hell ain't gonna fix itself; only real == voting citizens can begin a lengthy process. Won't happen in my lifetime.

But IF soon, the policies of the present illicit admin should cause a -critical mass- of the World to despise us: it MAY NOT happen at all. Your children will live in a quite different world. In that Brave New World (as my dear cohort Thea used to observe) -

Perhaps the Question won't even come up.?.

Peace. Inside comes First, then - - Outside.
(We in the West so often fail at any workable definition of that huge word.)
The US is no longer a Constitutional Republic - not since the PATRIOT Act became its own lampoon (of and for all of us).
