Serious ego problem
The author demonstrates one of the few reasons for dislike of Jews that actually can be placed on the Jews, though it certainly isn't special to Jews. He has got a raging religion based ego problem. When the non-Jew encounters the Jew, he is, consciously or subconsciously, struck by a richness of spirit, a depth of living, a resonance of eternity and an echo of the divine that is not easily described, but very palpable. There is something about the Jew that is larger than life, and the non-Jew feels it, sometimes more acutely than the Jew. In many ways it's the same sort of self rightousness that drives much of the most obnoxious Christian behavior. It is the same sort of mind set that lets Christians argue for religious freedom as long as it's freedom to be Christian but be outraged when a pagan wants equal freedom. The same thinking that says a Christian has the right to convert others but others don't have the right to convert Christians. It expresses itself a bit differently among Jews, due to the differences in the religion, but it's the same mindset. Heck, pull Jew out of the above quote and put Christian in it's place and it sounds like something any born again fanatic might say. It's that all pervading sense of correctness that keeps a person from even understanding other points of view. Jay

Yes
Read the whole thing, but what I pointed out is the only thing I think worth discussing. Once you see that flaw the rest of his arguments collapse like a house of cards.

No universal cause
There is no single universal cause of anti-Semitism.
Xenophobia, history and religion all conspire against the Jews, along with a hoard of lesser reasons. Xenophobia is the hatred of anything different, and the Jews have almost always been set off as a seperate group, either by choice or mandate.
History works against the Jews in several ways. The biggest is that anti-Semitism has existed so long and been so wide spread it can't easily be removed now. But the where also hurt by being scattered into so many small groups, so they never had the numbers or power to be a major force. And prior to that they suffered because they where almost always stuck between larger more powerful empires that wanted to get through the area.
Religion also gets them in several ways. The largest being inherent conflict between Christian and Jewish beliefs. Their religion also works to keep them set apart from the people around them, though this usually don't take the virulant strain of the author of that article.
The current actions of the Isreali state are doing nothing to help the repuation of Jews either.

On several occasions, I've been the honored gentile at various functions - for example, the Seder - twice. Once was a wonderful experience and a great honor, and I met a girl to whom I might easily be married in another world (a better one). The other involved listening to the yentas of Suburbia bitch at the moral shortcomings of the homeless - after enough glasses of festive wine I could no longer listen to this barrage and left in a huff.
In other words, it's just the usual shit. Last year with my Catholic friends at Christmas, my best buddie's brother got pissy again and started bitching for the second straight year. Poor Stephie, she went to such trouble for her brothers!
I am very lucky - all religions welcome me :)

I gotta agree.
So, all I have to do is convert and I too can have this "richness of spirit, a depth of living, a resonance of eternity and an echo of the divine that is not easily described, but very palpable."
Isn't Dr. Laura Jewish (by conversion)?

I'd corner the market on character.
So, all I have to do is find the right Jewish faction and join that.
I'd be an asshole, but I'd have "a richness of spirit, a depth of living, a resonance of eternity and an echo of the divine that is not easily described, but very palpable".
"Yeah, he's an asshole, but he somehow resonates with eternity."
"I know. That asshole has a depth of living that is sooooo palpable, but I find it hard to describe."

Liberals say:

There is something about the Liberal that is larger than life, and the Reactionary feels it, sometimes more acutely than the Liberal."
