New Ummm... ask yourself
"when was the last time Canada came to the US asking for help for our problems?"

I should point out that the last time we disagreed with the US on a major foreign policy/security issue was the Vietnam war. Perhaps food for thought?

New Sorry, I don't get it.

You said above wrt Canada not agreeing with the US:

\r\n\r\n
Who are they going to come asking for help to get out of problems... not the UN.
\r\n\r\n

So, I asked you the last time we asked you for help on "getting out of a problem". I wanted to see if you could name one, as I can't remember the last time we asked the US for military help. Perhaps WWII? We were in there some two years or so before you were; I'd not be surprised if Mackenzie King encouraged Roosevelt to hop on in... not that it was Roosevelt that needed convincing.

\r\n\r\n

I also pointed out the last time we disagreed with you on military matters (Vietnam). In another post, I've pointed that out in more detail, including specifically pointing out two times that the current government DID work with you militarily in the recent past (Afghanistan and Kosovo)... in short, you certainly can't accuse the Chretien gov't of opposing US military action "just because", and suggested you consider the reason why Canada is objecting this time.

New The last time was during the 76 crisis, tanks were
lined up at que border. They were to be towed across by canadian troops as American troops could not be allowed to drive them in. Twas a bit dicey around there then. There was general fear of an armed inssurection, It was also he time the war powers act was passed allowing canadians to be incarcerated without a charge and held for 6 months incommunicado. I dont know if it has ever been specifically recinded.

New Ah, the October Crisis
Right. So, we asked for equipment once.

As for the War Measures Act, it has long been out of the law as it is unconstitutional under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, enacted in 1980. For any Canadian history buffs out there (and I know you're out there;), it was the same PM that invoked the War Measures Act in '70 (not '76 Box... you must have it confused with the Montreal Olympics;) that tossed it forever by enacting the Charter, which also marked the end of even any formalistic connection with British Parliament. The Constitutional Act of 1980 (of which the Charter was a part) replaced the British North America of 1876 that marked the founding of the Dominion of Canada. The sole remaining legal connection between Canada and Britain is that the monarch is formally Canada's head of state, though in more practical terms the head of state is the Governer General of Canada.
