box, you been dippin' into the stashbox again?
Boxley: Sure our homicide rate is higher because we are a semi tropical nation
That's the first time I've heard that explanation advanced for the phenomenon--here I thought it might have something to do with all those Saturday night specials. Guess Australia must be a charnel house, huh? I'm surprised the poor devils haven't sunk into depopulated anarchy.
Would anyone happen to have the respective per capita homicide stats for Buffalo, NY and Naples, Italy?

violence in America
spent much time in the south? People from the south move north and take attitudes an culture with them. The large African American population in Buffalo arnt decended from slaves brought to work the fields of upper new york state. Thw white population of the southern and tropical areas are much more prone to violence than their Northern bretheren because they have lower tolerances for rudeness. Heat tends to make north europeans crazy.
Naples is a pretty violent city, the cammorra are from there and their tolerance for rudeness is lower than a Southern Alabamian. When you also mix in the racial tension from former slaves living in theoretical equality with their former overseers that also increases tension. American Violence stats should be compared with Mexico, Sundan, Jarkarta not Britain, France and Norway. We might have had a lot of immigrants from there but this mix of folks here is not a one for one comparison with europe. thanx, bill

This nation . . . has no right to expect that it always will have wise and humane rulers, sincerely attached to the principles of the Constitution. . . . [If] the calamities of war again befall us, the dangers to human liberty are frightful to contemplate. \ufffdUnited States Supreme Court, Ex Parte Milligan, 1866, declaring Abraham Lincoln's suspension of habeas corpus and other abuses of the Bill of Rights unconstitutional

Yee-haw! That be some righteous smoke!

Let's see, your average former slave in Buffalo is going to be, what, about 155 years old? Probably not terribly dangerous no matter how pissed off he is, wouldn't you think?

Good comeback, except..
you know that's not what he meant. I like to play the semantics game too, but that was a bit extreme.
Clinton, Clinton, Clinton. Is that all you guys ever think about? Do you see him hiding around every corner? Does he haunt your dreams? I dunno, if I was you I'd probably WANT to forget about the great William Jefferson Clinton. Unlike the current president, he managed peace, prosperity, balanced budgets, lower poverty and child poverty rates, 21 million new jobs, 50,000 new teachers, 100,000 new cops, the lowest crime rate in 25 years, greater worker protections, the highest home ownership rate in history, the protection of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security... Mind you, he did also have a penis, the evil bastard. --[link|http://www.democraticunderground.com/|Democratic Underground]

Re: Good comeback, except..
you know that's not what he meant ...Ah, but don't you think that it will encourage him to phrase the argument (should he be ill-advised enough to persist in advancing it) a little more carefully next time? As to "extreme" -- my feathery ironies, extreme? Talk to me about that next time deSitter takes you to task on a matter of history or usage.
