Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I need your help for the BEST Help Desk storyline EVER
I need the collective brainpower of iwethey to give me some information on the TV show "The Prisoner." This was a great show, but I haven't seen it in a long time and don't currently have access to the DVD set.

Ubersoft is going to win a contract to supply software for the US's "Total Information Awareness" initiative, and Mark is going to resign in protest. Then he's going to get knocked out and wake up on an island with a "7" emblazoned on his uniform (not the NUMBER 7. The LETTER 7). Wackiness and hijinks will follow, what with the Island seeking "information" and all that.

Thing is, it's been so long since I've seen the show, but I'm rusty. I have happy thoughts of the big bouncing beachball of death rebooting after every bounce, but can anyone point me to some incredibly useful Prisoner trivia sights?

Also, for those of you who read my strip, any thoughts as to which of my regular cast members could map to which odd characters in the series? I'm thinking of making the Lawyer #2 (or, rather, the letter 2) but other than that I have no idea.

Obviously I wouldn't be able to carry the parody through to the conclusion of the series, since the conclusion of the series was so off the wall that, well, I couldn't figure out how to make it fit.

I'm thinking of calling it "70741 i|\\|f02|/|47i0|\\| 4//42|\\|3z" but I don't know how well that will translate with the part of my audience who has no interest in 13375p33|<. Maybe "The Prisoner, Again"... since Mark has been arrested at least twice due to his shady alternate OS background...

At any rate, any thoughts, comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

New PS...
I *know* McGoohan's character was number 6, but I can't think of which letter 6 stands for... so 7 it is.

New 6=G?

New I thought g would be "9"

New Think Samuel Beckett
That show always gave me the willies - paranoia, statism, illogic, bad moon rising. Don't try to be logical or consistent - just very very dark and sardonic.

New NO......... Not the Letter...
...Letter Seven.... the ASCII value \\n007 or the comma seperated value 7 or csv7...

Have him interrogated about the Moth incidents... or maybe about his REAL background... implicate him in to JFKjr missing, the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping, the Hindenburg catching on fire... the fact that he was the ACTUAL thing that casued the Great Chicago Fire... even though these happened WAY before he was born... He has no verified non-existence... and never will...

New Re: NO......... Not the Letter...
oh, hey, I hadn't thought of that. If I went with the ascii value for 7 I could actually just go with the ascii value for 6, to match up with the series. :) Or the binary version! 110...

New Fortunately, KTEH in Silly Valley just did a redux
some weeks back. The commentator is a real Prisonerista, and re-ordered the showings, for reasons discussed at length. ie you can change the order of showing and get a Different perspective upon the P's growing awareness of the scale(s) of deception / organization involved.

Surrounded by memorabilia (including a full-sized Penny Farthing bicycle), Scott ___? offered several interesting intro- and post- monologues re the Symbols: the cycle, the umbrellas ('umbra- - hidden) other latin derivations. Wish it were on DVD - the episodes and commentator illuminations. Surely this allegory IS the Everyman we had to read in Eng. Lit -- just as his company was named, Everyman Productions. Layers upon layers.

As likely you are aware, the surrealism, missing links are quite intentional; this is Not a 'serial logic' creation - and McGoohan had full artistic license. Think Zippy (great plastic heads speak back) and Bizzaro - or (ancient) Dan O'Neill cartoons of the '70s, pretty well nailing the Fat Cats and the daily euphemisms.

Frankly, I don't think I'd be up to adequately paralleling something (as Ross hits-nail dead-on) so like Beckett. Aren't we All both Vladimir and Estragon? Maybe I could build from my own occasional, oblique takes on the daily illusion and sorta tie that in - but not too closely to any Prisoner episode. I think it's the (artistry) fact of McG being capable of a just-consistent-enough abstraction which mades this Radio-like:

As with the great radio mysteries of yore, You Must fill-in the details Yourself! Now if you can morph Alex's character --> a more pensive creature than suggested all along (unbeknownst to us unwashed), then I'd think you could create your own vagueness-quotient. I don't think you can borrow McG's effectively - only let The Prisoner refs indicate a certain message:
'reader must do some work next' == I Won't Be Explaining.

Irony. You do pretty well with that, and properly brought off - and with the power of cartoon caricature: You can be a Nast!

(If any of this makes any sense)

PS - Total Info Awareness alone.. is entr\ufffd to the entire facade of the manipulation of language by the powerful, seeking to retain their advantage via everything from slogans to outright absurdities in words.

Why.. you have Huxley, Orwell and The Bard all pullin fer ya!

New Huh?
Isn't here a "set crash=0" setting to keep it from crashing. IIRC.

Sometimes, self respect says you just have to speak out.
New yes but there is an easteregg as well
