bill of no rights
I like ************* Subject: The Bill of No Rights
The following has apparently been attributed to State Representative Mitchell Kaye from GA. This guy should have run for President:
"We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal, bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of No Rights."
ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be ... and like the rest of us you need to simply deal with it.
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV, pool tables, weight rooms or a life of leisure.
ARTICLE VIII: You don't have the right to demand that our children risk their lives in foreign wars to soothe your aching conscience. We hate oppressive governments and won't lift a finger to stop you from going to fight if you'd like. However, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world and do not want to spend so much of our time battling each and every little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat.
ARTICLE IX: You don't have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of part time jobs, education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.
ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness -- which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an overabundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights,"
ARTICLE XI: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from. We welcome you here. English is our language and like the one you left behind, we also have a culture. Learn it or go back to the country and the living conditions you were fleeing.
If you agree, share this with a friend. No, you don't have to, and nothing tragic will befall you if you don't. I just think it is about time common sense is allowed to flourish - call it the age of reason revisited. ****************** thanx, bill

He left off one
wonder why......
ARTICLE XII: You have the right to practice your religion as you see fit, as long as it doesn't involve animal or human sacrifice, doesn't use medicines or drugs that we, the right-wing conservative Republicans, disapprove of, like Peyote for example. Your religion will be officially accepted if it ensures that women will be considered second class citizens that have no control over their own bodies, so we can just end the abortion debate once and for all after to agree to our viewpoint. Your religion will be okay if it prevents you from using any birth control that isn't the Rhythm Method or "Just Say No". Your religious practices are your own business, unless it involves sex outside the sanctity of marriage or with someone of the same gender as you, then we, the government, reserve the right to spy on your bedroom practices and throw you in jail and publicly shame you if you do something that we consider revolting. You, in fact, have no constitutional right to even enjoy sex outside the sanctity of marriage, unless you're Jim Baker or Oral Roberts or any other minister who visited prostitutes numerous times while you were married, as long as you support and contribute heavily to the Republican party.

Move to Canada
Free health care and multi-culturalism are official policy here. To get a handle on some of the philosophical ideas behind it, start [link|http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20030311/COSAUL/TPComment/TopStories|here]. Then go and get some of his [link|http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/103-4478434-8270220|other books]. A good first read is the Doubter's Companion... extremely funny. You'd probably have a hard time getting in, anyway. One of the big debates going on up here now is around how we've changed our immigration/refugee policy at the behest of the US (in order to keep an open border); it includes automatic detention for refugees.

It's Not Funny
I would move tomorrow if it were even halfway possible.
I don't feel at home anywhere in the States. That is what my govt has done for me.
I've considered just showing up on the doorstep.

Yeah, right.
The exchange rate ruins that.
People in Canada work in the States because they get paid more, both in dollar amounts and because of the exchange rate. The cost of living is lower in Canada, so it's a big win. The exact same forces prevent US workers from doing the same; it isn't economically feasible.

In practice, multiculturalism doesn't work out that way
But you'd have to pass some time up here to see that.

Escape from St. Louis
Form your own country, I think that island on the Mississippi river can be claimed as a new country. It is usually known as no-man's land and people met there to duel because the state and federal laws didn't apply there.
The United States Of deSitter, population 1. Build a lean-to, and elect yourself as President and then apply to the UN for membership. Print up your own money using an Inkjet or Laserjet printer.
Either that or apply for a Reality TV show and get relocated for a few months to someplace else and hope you don't get voted off.
Canada don't want you, how about Mexico? Learn to speak Spanish and get a job at one of the many factories there. We stop them from coming into the US, but not from leaving the US to Mexico. Bring as many US Dollars as you can to Mexico, enough to buy some land and a house, with money left over to bribe the officials to keep you out of jail for being a Gringo. :)

Bob Seger Live Bullet Most of the J Geils live stuff Even the dreaded Journey "Captured".
Great rock town.
RE: Blues - I'm an Avs fan. Sister is still in Detroit - makes for interesting family dynamics on Wings-Avs game weekends. Much razzing all around.

Wrong fscking answer
I was in Denver, and there was ZERO hockey interest outside some for DU's college team. (Nice hoochies though - intellectual and all.) The very year I left, the Avs slunk in from Quebec - just when the Nordiques were about to give the Quebecois something to cheer about - and stole the goddamn cup! Well, I HATE the "Avs" (what kind of name is that?), and we will kick your ass in the playoffs, goalie or none! We'll do it for Canada!
The right answer is "OOOSSS-GOOOOODD OSSSSS-GOOOODDD".
With utmost respect nevertheless to Sakic and Roy.
