Being protective of personal details is very reasonable and understandable. I think that many of us draw a line between public and private. We just draw it in different places per person. (And sometimes per group.)
Thanks, I'm glad you understand that. However, being aware of the issues in here about identities, I also understand that you all might want more "proof" that I am who I am. That's why I gave you all the link to Portaffinity. :)
Understood and appreciated.
As for getting around all of the forums, I recommend hitting "Mark all read". Then going into preferences and making sure that under the posting preferences both "Show New Posts Only?" and "Show Forums With New Posts Only?" are checked. Then submit that.
Hmmm if I mark "Show New Posts Only" in the preferences, wouldn't that mean I could NEVER reference old posts again? Or could I still do site searches and go tos and get there?
You can reference old posts again, do site searches, etc. Also go into any forum and click on, "Show all posts" at the top then browse. But 99% of the time it is very convenient only seeing threads with new posts in them. Try it both ways and see what you think. :-)
Never again mark all read. Instead as forums come up, look at them and decide if you want to live without them. If you do, then use the handy links that Greg provided at [link|http://twiki.iwethey.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GregFolkert|http://twiki.iwethey.../Main/GregFolkert] to mark them read for years to come. Voila! Those forums disappear and never come back. :-)
Hmmm, I'll certainly consider that. Meanwhile, I'm still staying in these two for the moment. I wanted to "jump" this thread to the forum about tips for using this, or whatever the forum was that you ask for help in, but I don't know how to "jump" a thread to another forum. I know you can, though, cause I've seen it done in here.
Reply to this. Scroll below the text entry forum. Look for the button named "Save", with a checkbox called "As New Topic In" and then a dropdown box with a list of forums. Check that checkbox, and select the forum you want in the dropdown before you press "Save". :-)
As for forums to stay in. Staying in 2 is fine. But personally I suggest at least browsing the Oh Pun forum. Some of the humor is not very good, but the occasional gems make the rest worthwhile. At least IMHO.
PS And for navigating the whole web, I recommend giving [link|http://www.google.com/|http://www.google.com/] a try. Think of a topic. Type a few key words connected to that topic in. Submit. Follow links. Repeat as desired. :-)
Well, I'm actually very good at "searching" the web, what I actually call "Fishing on the net" (It's a long story). But what I'm not good at is navigating the sites I find sometimes. ;)
That comes with experience with a site. If, that is, the site is at all well laid out...
But I can find almost anything anyone needs, I'm an expert "fisher" ;)
Well, you found us. Good fishing job there! ;-)
Cheers,
Ben
