That's because it has to!
This is a nation of [link|http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2496427.stm|dummies]. Among the 18-24 year olds: only 13% of Americans tested could point Iraq out on a map of the world. o o o 11% of Americans could not find America! o o o 34% of Americans know the tiny Marquesas Islands, where the last season of reality TV show "Survivor" was filmed, is located in the South Pacific. But only 30% could point to the location of New Jersey. Take that beep! :) 56% of Americans were unable to locate India, home to 17% of the world's population. And, let's face it, geography is easy!

Re: That's because it has to!
Geez, I know where America, India, and Iraq is. Pakistan and Afghanistan, too. But where the hell is the Marquesas Islands? New Joisey is on the east coast, unfortunately too near New Yawk.
(I obviously have not watched so-called Survivor much.)

And many of them can't even read!
Harry the Beard wonders: But where the hell is the Marquesas Islands? They're in the South Pacific -- it SAID SO, right there in Alex' post! ;^>

Oh yeah, South Pacific
Now that's a very specific location. I couldn't distinguish them between most of the other micronesias with a magnifying glass. :-)

Uhhh, Chris...
I don't doubt wharris's reading ability, but...er, the South Specific is a Big fscking Place. Without trying to put words into his mouth, I suspect he was looking for a little tighter fix on the place (I know I was, when I read Alex's post...).

Yes, I got that - but I was referring to the multiple edits.
"Fat-fingers", as someone called them... :-)

Reporter Rolland Headly: "Yeah, but all 13% are Marines".
