New Re: Vote for ignoring.
Unfortunately, this only works if *everyone* participates. All it takes is one person with a lack of self-restraint to flare everything up yet again.

In a few cases, I have locked people responding to him when the response is nothing more than goading. Any thoughts on making that Official Policy? ie. if you must respond, either a) do it via a linked thread in the Flame Quarantine or b) if your response is content-free, expect that it will be locked by me.
Regards,

-scott anderson

"Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson..."
New I concur.
You're right, it WILL work only if everybody agrees to stop responding. I figure that we are a responsible (snort) bunch of adults, and that we can recognize goading for what it is.

Then again, this board does have some of the most flame-happy induhviduals I've ever met... And I'll accept group consensus. Just wanted to make sure I got my $.02 in.
New Well, isn't that the most bass-ackwards idea I ever saw...
So, like, out of an urge not to block or ban or lock Norm's stupid goading bullshit posts, you're going to block or ban or lock *everybody* ELSE when they get goaded BY Norm?!?

Tell me again -- only slowly and clearly, please, this time around -- how this is so much better...?

New When you put it That way..
What I see is - for better or worse.. the presence of a gadfly is a challenge to everyone's intelligence, discretion er maturity?

It really is possible to SKIP - and it is sooo easy, given the magnificence of this site design. (BTW dead-on: all legislation IS about some cockamamie impulse Bowdlerized to morality for The Masses, typ. by some hypocrite of the largest scale).

Call me Pollyanna. In the end, this flake needs to earn his way back-in to civilized society. If he CAN. Yet his 'personal' tools are limited, we see. Does he ever get a new chance 'here' via simple charity? POSTING the # of folks in shun-mode (say) is a perverse way of nyaa nyaa nyaa, IMhO - and it decidedly encourages creating the force of the MOB IMO.

Yes it's a PITA, but charity is about eating others' negativity without letting it stick, or so I've heard. (At least MM could occasionally evoke a sane techno-matter worth dissecting. And on non-M$ topics he was almost erudite - we traded e-mails a couple times.) Do we wish to become a class-graded society sans all auto-filtered misfits? (Maybe some do wish that)

I vote for maximizing the need for each poster to take responsibility for navigating around those addicted to senseless perpetuation of an inane thread: not Scott or Lectronic-Scott (save me from me). But that's only one vote, natch..

New Why should Scott have to do ANY work?
When all we have to do is NOT F*CKING RESPOND!
Why should we ask our military to die for cheap oil when the rest of us aren't even being asked to get better mileage?
