All I get so far is 'Not Acceptable'. OK, Peter hates me :)
Any clue as to what can lead to a 'Not Acceptable' error? I'm using an Alpha version of an OS X clinet, called [link|http://jabberfox.sourceforge.net/download.php|JabberFoX] which might explain things.

Er.
Dunno.
Mac OS X is a closed book to me. I've had a quick go in PC world and gone "ooh" at the big icons in the dock, and that's about my lot.
Two things I'd do.
Firstly, see if there's some means of viewing the XML stream between your machine and the server. Many clients have a "debug" option of some sort.
Secondly, try another client and see if you get the same error.
[link|http://www.jabbercentral.org|http://www.jabbercentral.org] has a decent list of clients for all sorts of operating systems.

Hey Peter,
..could you narrow down the choice of Windows clients from 3 billion to 50 or 60? Can I use the "Chat" feature in Windows? Your suggestions appreciated.

Re: Hey Peter,
Choice 1: Winjab. Choice 2: Rival3.
One of those will do you.
Go to [link|http://www.jabbercentral.com|http://www.jabbercentral.com] and Use the "clients" page to find them.

Conferencing!
As I type this, there's a bunch of people yacking away at the following conference:
ziwt@conference.guildenstern.dyndns.org
(No, that's not an email address and no, you can't tunnel jabber over SMTP...yet)
Plug that into what ever option you have in your client for joining a group chat/conference.

Try using Fire
It's a nice multi-service client and free. So far it's not giving me problems.
