New Now I'm wondering about HIPAA compliance...
Big deal here...
End of world rescheduled for day after tomorrow. Something should probably be done. Please advise.

In fact Slashdot just yesterday ran [link|http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/10/21/2033257&mode=nested&tid=172|this article] on HIPAA compliance, which referred to their [link|http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/08/27/2030205&tid=109|earlier one] about Windows 2000 licensing and HIPAA.

Microsoft offers them the one thing most business people will pay any price for - the ability to say "we had no choice - everyone's doing it that way." -- [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=38978|Andrew Grygus]
New No Doubt
The medical industry should be concerned. In fact, anyone who keeps private information on their PC should.

Microsoft is a software company and I'd think any other software company, or independent developer, competing with Microsoft wouldn't want them or their 'agents' poking around their systems.

New Re: No Doubt
I'm currently working in education (college administrative stuff). Currently working on SEVIS, the new INN requirements that will (supposedly, if they get it working) track foreign students here. (They say, of course, everything will be working perfectly by the time the January 30 deadline. But then they have another update due next month. As if most software companies could make changes in time to meet the January 30 deadline.) (I'm on the job so I'm sure *we* can. I'll make sure of that. :)

But you give out personal information about students, you're in trouble (if they find out and if they have the smarts to sue.) Displaying the social security number in many cases is verbotten. Even the daggone birth date can be bad; identity theft and all that.

This is all frightfully unimportant, but since when has that been a reason not to post?
