New Me too, but not quite so strong
My doctor recommended doing a saline rinse a few years ago, works well. Just 1 tablespoon per cup, though. Use a [link|http://www.dmartstores.com/nasasbysaf1s.html|nasal aspirator] and squirt up one nostril. The crap flushes out the other. Alternate nostrils until the cup of saline solution is gone.

New Developed the ratio emperically
I wanted a hypertonic solution to draw moisture from the membranes. Guessed at proportions until I got something that worked.

New Hadn't thought of that...
..was wondering "how can that help?" since basically clear mucous is thick salt water - can I use iodized table salt? What formula?
-drl
New Iodine shouldn't hurt anything
except maybe a delicate sauce :)
I use a couple table spoons to a cup of water. Possibly does not need to be that strong. Spice's doc said a tablespoon. Might try that first and adjust according to need.

New makes sense
My doctor said the saline rinse was used by people who'd had work done on their nose(reconstructive or corrective surgery). The saline helps it heal quicker, kinda like how cuts heal quicker after swimming in the ocean.
