New Useable elsewhere?
if it just the OS then you can
if it was made by the OEM then it will have ways of identifying the machine and then no

New OEM versus Rescu Disks
Generally, OEM copies from GW and Dell (my experience) work anywhere. However...since they are OEM disks they won't install over an existing copy of Windows (no upgrade)

However, for fresh installs I've used both on several different machines/configurations to rescue/reinstall and haven't had any problems.

Just used a GW to do a Dell laptop. No problem.

New Not true.
if it was made by the OEM then it will have ways of identifying the machine and then no

Windows 98 and Windows Me have no way of uniquely identifying the hardware they're running on.

New Re: Not true.
well, that may be but when I ran WinME off a gateway disk it told me it wasn't a gateway machine (it wasn't) and quit

New That is a rescue disk...not an OEM copy.
They started that with Me/2k...not giving OEM copies of the OS...but rather preconfigured rescue disks.
