Welcome to IWETHEY!

New rxvt
...as part of the Cygwin suite.

If you want to invoke it with command.com, use the following as your shortcut (all one line):
C:\\cygwin\\bin\\rxvt.exe -bg grey15 -fg gold -cr slateblue -fn 12x15 -e /cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/system32/command.com

Works for me™.

Set your scrollback buffer with the -sl command line option. 10k lines should be sufficient, no?

New Neat toy.
The one problem is (and it's probably me bollixing something up) that when I launch it, I get echo and no response from command.com.

My shortcut:

c:\\cygwin\\bin\\rxvt.exe -sl 10000 -e /cygdrive/c/command.com

Any thoughts?
End of world rescheduled for day after tomorrow. Something should probably be done. Please advise.
New Try breaking it apart.
What happens if you fire up rxvt by its lonesome, then launch command.com from within it? I'd try putting the pieces together first, and seeing where things break.

Does rxvt work by itself?

New Symptoms
RXVT comes up no matter what. If I start it with the above command, I get:

Microsoft (R) Windows 98
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1999.

C:\\cygwin\\bin> [cursor]

Then, if I type something and hit enter, there is a slight pause, and it's echoed back to the console on the next line. Nothing else happens.

If I just invoke rxvt on it's own, then type the following at the $ prompt:

/cygdrive/c/command.com

Then I get the following error message:

SH caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff7d762. (along with some registers)

and it does the exact same thing as if I'd invoked the whole kit with the command line.

Oh, and if I exit out, I get a hung winoldap process.

New Not the only one seeing this.
See [link|http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2002-02/msg00114.html|here.]

Looks like a problem with the most recent version of Cygwin and all .com files under 9x. Sigh.

Actually, I don't need the scrollback buffer for a console - just Cygwin itself. If I can get a Cygwin shell, I'm good to go...

And I'm good to go. :) Groovy.

New Why not use Putty?
It can be used like that...

Without a telnet server?

New Hey K
..how much Cygwin do I need to run that, and where do I get it?

New Can answer part two:

How much Cygwin do you need? No idea. Can't be all that much - as near as I can tell, the installation process resolves all dependancies, so I don't think it's that much...

I used to use rot-13, but I decided I needed something at least twice as strong. So now I use rot-26 to encode all of my transmissions.
