Yeah, I'd chalk the majority of it up to Scott's SQL optimization, a minority of it to more RAM and multiple CPU's on this new server...

As for the latency, I think that's just an odditity with Postgres. Watching top on the box, periodically Postgres will spike the CPUs, lagging all the processes on the box, obviously.

I can only guess that that's another query we could optimize somewhere in the system. But, who knows. I'm not real keen with Postgres, myself.

Can't you set a timer to make it refresh more often? I have no idea how this board works, but when I was thinking about making a forum, I had this idea of the post as an object and that the thing would almost be interrupt-driven, that is, didn't wait for user input directly but just assumed it would be coming. That way it could always be repsonsive to live posts, which is the thing that psychologically seems to show up as wait time, and you want to minimize that.

It does seem snappier - at times.
