
Why marijuana really is illegal (supposedly)
William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper tycoon, has vast timber interests.
An inexpensive process for making paper out of hemp is invented, potentially decimating Hearst's lumber investments.
Shortly thereafter, Hearst wages a massive anti-hemp (marijuana) campaign across his chain of newspapers.
Harry joins in, essentially reading Hearst's editorials verbatim.
So they say, anyway.
