Let's separate out the two systems. First, you need to train vision models - the model that reads in still frame and labels them for the ground truth system, the pathing system, etc. Nvidia is the right tool for this job. The V100, A100, and H100 are all great, and have been out for a long time. I knew Tesla was a fraud when Cruise had racked almost $1 billion of V100 chips, and Tesla had invested only about $30 million in a much smaller cluster. This was around 2017.

Next, you need to run a large scale simulation model of the real world and ideally you would do 10,000 years of testing on a build. During this time, if there's a fatal accident the build fails. Dojo is a genius solution to this problem. Attach a RISC-V computer (different architecture than Intel/AMD or ARM) to an FSD computer, and then trick the computer into thinking it's in a real car. Assemble 100,000 of these, and now you can do a 10,000 years of testing in under a month. Your "gold release candidate" builds go through that month of testing before you put them on a real car. Then you roll it out slowly to the whole fleet.

The problem is, it's really, really hard to make a new computer system. From the operating system, to the drivers, to the I/O bottlenecks. Not only do you have revisions of the FSD computer, but you also have revisions of the Dojo system architecture. Last time I checked, they were on their 3rd major revision of the Dojo system. The thing Nvidia solved is removing every bottleneck in the system so data flies through like shit through a goose. In particular, a lot of training relies on floating point 8-bit operations and a technique called quantization, which attempts to scale down a larger 16-bit calculation without losing meaningful precision in the data.

If all 50,000 people working at Tesla were just focused on building this system, it would still take them 8-10 years to put a robotaxi on the roads for testing. Then the requisite 5 years of permits and testing in a city like San Francisco. So basically it would be ready for rides in 2040. But they're not doing this.

Elon's style is to put a team of 10 on it, make them work 120 hours a week, and see if they can make a novel computer. Even the deployment pipeline automation system would take more people than that. Not to mention inventing an ethernet bus that can feed data to those cards at thousands of times the normal network speed. Nvidia calls this infiband.

Caveat emptor.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Not that I think he'll achieve it
First of all, obviously that 10 person number is insanity as is the work hours. Yes, Elon is a slave driver. No, I would never work for him, even in my felonious position.

If he wants to scale up he can. He just has to throw money at it and he has money. It's his decision whether or not he spends it on x or on more employees to push his car company further.

Those years of testing can be cut in half and in quarters and in eighths every time there's a speed jump on his cluster. He can cut those years to weeks. He just has to beat his geeks harder.

Those 5 years of permitting could be turned into 30 days if he pays off the right guy. He just has to pay off one guy in one city to get this up and running. Out of all the cities in the US, he can find one. Assume it doesn't kill too many people and then it'll get copied to the next city.

I don't think it'll happen. I think he'll pay off the wrong guy and get caught or he'll kill too many people.

Those huge stamping and extrusion machines that he uses to build these cars don't use real steel. The Cyber truck frame breaks from the point of the tow hook. There's absolutely nothing he can do about it. All the vehicles that end up being created using the giga stamp technology are fragile pieces of shit.

It's not noticed in the little ones but it shows up in the truck when they abuse it. But when I say abuse, I mean use it perfectly well as a pickup truck should be used.

So that'll be a few interesting lawsuits before there is a serious crash in Tesla stock. He'll never be poor, but he'll never go to Mars either.

On the other hand, those factories would be great for making robots.
New "On the other hand, those factories would be great for making robots."
Why do I think that was your point from the beginning?

While it may be true, I don't think that was the original plan. I think he really did believe he could design a truck factory from first principles.

Well ... not quite first. He looked at existing factories and thought, "Any part of the process or physical plant that I don't understand, must not be necessary."

New Not at all
I am shocked, tell you shocked, that you would think I think that much about manipulating the reader's thought process. Well not that shocked. But that was the old days.

And I'll throw in aside as I edit this. I absolutely thought like that for about 30 years. I abused my mirror neurons to understand what I thought other people were thinking and then very slowly, very gently manipulate them to my way of thinking but the goal was to always make them think it was their idea. Just once they got enough information they would obviously think the way I think. I was thinking about inception before it was a movie.

It's simply the way you teach people. People remember things that they thought up, not that they were told. So you always want them to figure out things on their own.

It's better if they do it observationally via third party. If they're being told something directly they have Shields Up and a higher analytical response. But if they are observing, they don't feel that it is directed at them so they don't need that level of protectiveness.

It was always best to have a foil. Someone to argue with publicly. I would never change that person's opinion, but I would always be guiding the onlookers if possible.

And then I did MDMA and I recognized the behavior and I stopped abusing it, at least attempted. I did it recently with static. Sorry about that. I never argue with a person for the sake of arguing with that particular person. Sometimes they end up being collateral damage. I try not to do that anymore.

Same reason no matter how much a guest annoys me in my Airbnb situation, I focus on the good have never left a bad review. Sometimes I don't leave any, but I have yet to leave a bad one. That letter from long ago never got sent or posted. I just needed to vent. Maybe they've had a bad couple of days and I ended up being the brunt of it.

To start off with I thought about recreating infiniband. I thought about how you could possibly buy the base technology from Larry at Oracle who owns Sun who owns Cray who pioneered the fast memory point-to-point CPU channels which is what infiniband is based on. I spent about 10 minutes doing that research. And then figured why bother.

And I thought about the hours and other stuff and the silliness of the quote so I addressed it.

And then I went off onto whatever tangents I had going in my brain at that point and then in a roundabout fashion went Aha, don't forget about those factories! They'd be great for those robots that will enslave us!

Here's the link to the basis of the lawsuits:

https://youtu.be/_scBKKHi7WQ?si=qtp6wm3oQOn7K1qa

The guy is dying to get Elon to sue him.

Keep in mind that I dictate to my phone and I rarely ever change anything other than an occasional misinterpreted word. So you get to hear my rambling thoughts in order.

I can't possibly hold more than a paragraph of thoughts in my brain as I am dictating. I rarely have that end result in mind. Without the drugs the EDS would be crippling. With the drugs I think in paragraphs. It's worth it to me but I acknowledge it. On the other hand, I get to go back and reread and edit in this post format which I do occasionally.

New At least attempted
Nope, I'm very successful in recognizing and attempting. That's all I need to do. I stopped when static exhibited personal pain. Initially he was simply reactive and possibly could change his mind. I reacted perfectly appropriately for my personality and my recognition that everyone else in the group counts and my activity was causing pain.

This was a civil rights discussion. Combined with the trolley car problem. There was going to be winners and losers. Absolutely no way to avoid it. This is ethics 101. So I put it to him that his choice was wrong. He chose wrong on the trolley car. I did it harshly but it was very direct and he did not like it.

I'm very happy, which is a very strange thing to say, that I was not having any arguments with Greg when he died. We don't know if he killed himself. We do know he's had dramatic stress in his life. I know when I first met him and I saw the attempted suicide scars that I shouldn't fight with him as hard as I used to. So now I'm far more aware of the person on the other side and other things that could be going on that have nothing to do with the current argument that I should take into account.

On the other hand, I don't give a shit if the fake smartest person in the world is out there judging me. He's got a far more fragile front than me.

I NEVER SAID I WAS "the smartest person in the world" -- just that I "Know Fucking Everything". That's

A) Not the same thing; and

B) Not even me originally saying it. It's a quote from... I can't quite recall, but quite possibly originally from you.

It's right there to see below every post I make, so it's getting really fucking annoying that you keep claiming I've said something I haven't said. Cut it the fuck out, please. Thank you.

No. Which is why it's getting annoying that you keep claiming that you have. You need that to prop up your ego, or what?

Even better, I inflated the ego years ago to be able to pop it now. As you said, you changed because of me.
Sigh... Learn to read. If I never said "I'm the smartest person in the world" before, and I'm not saying it now, there was no change in that.

So you haven't executed any cunning plan spanning years, you've just been running this weird fantasy of yours for I don't know how long. Sorry to have to pop it.

New Nope
You decided to attack. You are master of flames. Or maybe wet matches. And now you are sad.

So I conflated smartest guy in the world with the guy who apparently knows everything. Like there's a difference?

Your marginal ability to identify definitions of individual words and overreact and delve into deep detail on the individual word betrays your inability to understand them in context. You obviously don't know what you're talking about but boy do you know what those individual words mean.

Okay, this is the final edit. I'll leave it alone. I'll walk away.

You "apparently" know everything to yourself. I told you to put that back in because you were peacock strutting. It would be funny to see it there in the future. You are mostly presentation and very little actual content. And of course you had no idea what I was really saying. Even when you went back and reread it. You did what I told you to do. And I smiled a little and shook my head. It was kind of sad.

I know when I think I'm the smartest guy in the room. I know in this room when considering everyone else who could be in it, I'm not. Neither are you.

But I didn't set the bar so high that I'm expected to at least pretend to know everything. You've done that to yourself.

Also, the word apparent implies that you don't know everything. Not even close. But you're trying to con people into thinking you do. See, lots of subtleties in that that one line, and there's no way your ego would allow them to be self-inflicted.

You're obviously not Marilyn von whatever. But for someone who apparently knows everything you get corrected often enough.

Obviously it's a huge deal to you because it's your identity.

Pop

Of course, you will catch some trivial difference and expound on it. Enormously. That's okay. You're typically fun to read. Even when you think you're scoring points.

Points?

Yes, the internet runs on egoboo. Some of us recognize it.

One of us is relaxed and smiling while writing. The other seems a bit tense.

Hmmm. You are definitely a multilingual language master. At least on a word by word basis. Were you raised bilingual or did you pick up second languages after adolescence? If so, you have a major jump up compared to most of the population in brain power. You are obviously highly educated. World events you're pretty good on. But I don't seem to ever recall you getting into any hardcore tech stuff. Maybe it's just my old poor memory. You may apparently know everything because you can Google and read and quickly pick up stuff in multiple languages. Just like millions of other people. This is nothing special. But what have you actually done?

Oh, and concerning previous posts concerning toying with an opponent for the onlookers and the opponent just being collateral damage. Nope. This isn't a discussion about an event that someone disagrees on. This is a direct attack on identity. Your signature. Oh flame Master, feel free to move this to flames.

But tell me one more thing before we do. If we do. You don't have any history of self-harm, do you?

Concerning the language master statement. You don't really get American English idioms. You read them and you try to figure for context and then you look it up and then you laugh at the Americans. Each of the words in the idiom has synonyms and you have to string them together and figure out which of the correct synonyms to string together and then finally what it all means in context. You have no clue. Then you Google it. You get different definitions, most of them overlapping. But you don't really get it. You don't feel it and you won't use it correctly. You're probably that way in many languages.

You must have a hell of a case of imposter syndrome.

You have no clue how to use the word fuck in American English because it's so common in your language in a different context. It's fun to watch because it's so obvious.

Don't bother telling me you're not trying for American English. You are writing for impact. And your audience is mostly American English.

Just like the way British use cunt and we don't. Their type of dramatic over usage as compared to over here sets them apart. We immediately discount their usage of it and trivialize it because of that. In your case, your usage style removes all impact.

Anytime I see fuck in a headline or multiple strung together in a single post I double-check to see that it's you writing it. And then I go: Oh it's just you. You get a pass on the judgment. "Just" you. We grant that you are writing on the level of a 3-year-old who's just discovered the fuckety-fucks. Please look at me. I'm dying to be looked at. I can say fuck like the big boys.

Hey, American English onlookers: judgment please. Am I wrong?

Anyone who sees that knows you're basically at the language level of our hillbilly moron.

Happy to give further advice to help in your cultural understanding and language usage.

Oh, and yesterday my blood pressure was too low. My new meds overshot. I was running at 85 over 49. I was tired and groggy and on low brain pressure. I can feel when I'm stupid at that moment. Today it's much better. Ramping up nicely. Shall I go on?

I'd bet a few bucks that you are often multilingual in a professional context.

I wonder how many times you've embarrassed yourself without knowing it?

This is like bubble wrap. Pop. Pop.

I love bubble wrap.

New I wonder
Did you ever see this? Did you pattern your usage after it?

https://youtu.be/xZkb4TPI-Lo?si=nc2wShX6jgX9GPdf

Not attacking. Trying to understand. I don't recall you ever describing, so I'll just assume based on where you live that you have Viking heritage. Old Norse turned into German. Fuck is based out of German. Your usage makes perfect sense based on your linguistic background.

We were/are a puritanical society over here and certain magic words make us turn our heads. Most of us have learned to use those words sparingly to really slam it in when we use it.

Fuck is the most versatile, as Carlin said. But is not nearly the worst. And it is easily overused and discounted immediately.

Even in the groups where a constant stream of curses are perfectly the norm, when cunt pops up, everyone does a double take.

Is there a specific female in the vicinity that this could have been directed to? If so, prepare to be eviscerated. Did a female hear you use it at all? Here comes the pain unless it's against someone she really hates. And even then it's a bad idea since they will do some sisterhood bonding and come at you twice as hard.

Guys will very rarely use it within conversation amongst themselves. Simply doesn't happen. So when a British person lets off a stream of cuntity cunts it's kind of mind-boggling.

New And I just did a quick review of static conversation
You agreed with me. You responded harshly to static when he bailed. I was very gentle in that conversation compared to what it could have been.

"This is cheating. You already said they have an advantage, just not very much. You are supporting the cheaters."

And that was enough for me to apologize.

Which then turned into "you failed" from you.

Okay, what kind of bad day were you having that caused you to attack me for that?
New Speaking of manipulation, check out the Lincoln project ads
Work your way from the channel history in correct order starting at this one to current. They're about a minute a piece. They always broadcast in whatever media market he is in.

They are designed to worm into his brain and I am sure it is working.

It'll take you about 10 minutes and it's worth it.

Halfway through you'll get the one where they call him a baby for sending a cease and desist over the ads. They basically told him to f*** off.
