New A peek into the Musk mind
It is so obvious why he bought Twitter. Before that moment you could toss out vague generic political stuff or racism or whatever.

Nope. His son is dead. His ability to generate heirs is gone. His son is dead. Musk will have his revenge.

New Eh, what? Not getting it. Aha, OK, after actually reading the article I do. But still...
Nope. His son is dead. His ability to generate heirs is gone. His son is dead.
I thought he has at least eight kids or something? Was only one of them a boy? Also, has he had himself castrated, or what? If not, he could always make a new one, couldn't he? So yeah, I'm not getting the connection from "his son is dead" to "his ability to generate heirs is gone"...

Ah, now I get it: The son taking puberty blockers had the same effect as the son getting himself castrated, so it's the son who can't get Musk any next-generation heirs.

But still, doesn't he have other sons? (Or couldn't he make some; seems a guy with that kind of moolah can get women to impregnate without much trouble...)

And above all: For every sone he doesn't have among those eight or nine or whatever kids, he has a daughter. Is the guy so positively seventeenth-century that neither they, nor the sons they could have, count as "heirs"?!?

What an utter asshole.

New #1: because he's insane
That's the starting point. Anytime there's ever a Musk question. The next question is will this be to the benefit or detriment of humanity based on how much money and power he has.

He thinks he is one of the smartest people in the world. He thinks he chooses to associate with other smart people. He thinks the combination of his genes with whoever he's chosen to procreate with is part of the next generation that will save humanity because they're the smartest idiots around.

Just my observation based on his actions and interviews over the years.

Every single one of his sperm/egg combination is sacred. Each one of them represents infinite generations of overlords as far as he is concerned.

So he got really angry when he thought they tricked him. Did you review that tricked him language? He gave all kinds of excuses. I knew exactly what was being presented to him the moment he talked about it. But he didn't. He can never accept that he simply made a bad decision for who he is. He wasn't smart enough to Google the situation. So he has to say he was tricked.

Add in the homophobia. Add in the threat that the kid was going to kill themselves if they weren't given what they wanted. He was tricked and manipulated by those bastards.

And the cornerstone is that the spawn of his will no longer speak to him. She has announced to the world that she changed her name and does not want to be associated with him. That type of stuff is based on a lifetime of abuse

And he just cut Trump loose. No more $45 million a month. It never existed in the first place. Trump's flipping out. So anyway everything he says and does can cause swings in what's happening in the public sphere. He has that kind of influence. So we have to pay attention to him so we know when we have to pull out the tar/feathers/pitchforks.

New And charismatic.
He has skills to find and encourage actually technically smart people. He has some business acumen. But above all, he has charisma.

The Paypal people engineered a board meeting to kick him out when Musk had to dial-in from an airplane. They did this to curb his personal presence, and said as much. And he knew it. I daresay he has not forgotten this.
New De-AMPed...

New What's the difference?
For some reason I always thought the amp version was the lightweight version of a page and I get that redirected there by default because I'm a cell phone.

So I just did a side-by-side scroll of the two pages and they're pretty much identical.

Why post the alternative?
New Interesting, the non-AMP link is paywalled for me.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Makes partial sense
Just making stuff up based on a bit of knowledge and assumptions.

Amp pages get fed to news aggregators. That's the lightweight version. Direct access heavyweight pages don't.

Amped pages count as advertising? Regular ones are access costs plus whatever they managed to sell on them? So regular pages cost them more to distribute.

You probably have read far more Rolling Stone articles than I have which in turn has triggered them to block you. But not on the amp pages because that particular feed either doesn't care how much it costs or there's a lower restrictive weight value assigned to them when it is looked up and therefore they let you get the amp but not the regular.
New AMP = Accellerated Mobile Pages
Google scrapes the simplified versions, and when you click the link you're getting it served from Google's servers. Yes, this means decreased distribution costs for the source, theoretically faster load time for the user, but ads - less or more than the original - are 100% in Google's control.

I haven't seen anyone do a side-by-side comparison of a large corpus in a while, but the short version is that you're giving up as much control to Google using AMP as you give up to Facebook publishing on their platform.

New And it goes on
As long as there's someone ready to call and interview, she has decided to answer. She's pissed. And she's one of the few people in the world who can actually win a fight with him.

New Oops. Now Grimes is getting into the action
Looks like that NDA isn't as strong as you thought it was.

One thing I've learned long ago is that if you think you are smart that there's a good probability that your kids will be smarter than you. Don't go into a battle of wills and minds with your kids unless you are willing to fight dirty because you will lose.

You have to be able to say: Because I'm your parent.

This only works as long as your kid thinks you have their best interest in mind. The second you say you want them to shut up because you just want quiet it no longer works.

I had to explain and negotiate stuff in kindergarten because those kids were quickly running rings around me.

And there will come a day when that no longer works. You better have come up with a firm, logical foundation of whatever rule you are trying to enforce or it is game over and now you've made an enemy. You can't control other people forever and you have to be ready to let go at any time after puberty.

Or in this case, blocked puberty. Or in his case, he should have let go way long before then because it's not like he was hanging around raising them anyway.

They're a cornered rat, and quite frankly, I think they have rabies to boot. I'd rather not get too close to them.
