I couldn't resist having this recipe on Clovegarden.com even though I can't make it right now. I may make 1/4 recipe when Mopanes become available again - the full recipe would cost $135 at posted prices. Mopane Worms I haven't done any recipes with insects. They keep telling us they're so nutritious, the future of protein, and savior of the world - but when I checked prices of food grade insects, they were insanely high. Prime rib costs a lot less.

I think it's mostly Southern African expats (there are quite a few in Texas) and adventurers - plus supply shortages. In some tourist hotels in South Africa, if you manage to eat a Mopane Worm, witnessed by the waiter, you get a special certificate.
