New They don't want a solution, they want an excuse

New which side? or both?

New Trying not to knee jerk and assume
I'm definitely not saying both sides, but can I assume so quickly that it's not? I think it's obvious that some on the law enforcement side are quick to claim any resistance as a reason to escalate. Is that true of the protesters?

Leave aside the troublemakers just using the chaos as cover. And the instigators trying to make BLM look bad. And forget for now that there are as many reasons to protest as there are protesters.

What would they be looking for an excuse to do?

They're already in the streets protesting. They're not trying to attack cops. If anything, they want the cops to leave. Ask our military about being an occupying force. They don't want you dead; they want you gone.

So no, it's not both sides. And after thinking through it, I'm comfortable sticking with my initial reaction.

New you have folks inside the courthouse whose "mission" such as it is
is to ensure that the "federal grounds" are not breached. As to whether that mission is if value is a political proposition but generally speaking government has a want/need to keep the body federal intact.

On the outside you have peaceful somewhat protesters that are replaced at at sometime during the evening by folks who are aiming civilian mortars directly at the "troops" inside, people using tools to dismantle the fence and throwing firebombs. After a certain amount of damage is done orders are given to disperse the crowd and rinse and repeat the next day.

So what are the aims of the people causing injuries to the folks inside and attempting to dismantle the federal property? IF it is to drive them out I would say let them have it. Move all federal offices out of the city to Bend or another Oregon city.

Sit back and see what happens.

New This wasn't about the feds until they started playing Gestapo
Once the feds are gone, there's still the issue of the police.

Drew
New from the article I posted it did not seem like they were playing gestapo
"Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts" – Richard Feynman
New Did the AP embed a reporter with the teams cruising in unmarked vans and disappearing people?

Drew
New nope, there is a missing persons list in portland?

New The first round was catch-and-release. That makes it ok?

Drew
New so where did they "disappear" to? if it was to a jail then in front of a judge that not ok?
"Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts" – Richard Feynman
New No judge.
They were interrogated and threatened, then released. Some were told if they ever attended another protest, they were in big trouble.

This is a test run for the American Gestapo, to demonstrate that nothing will stop these tactics. Indefinite detainment without Miranda or outside communication will be next.

The administration's question, "Do we own enough judges now to get away with this?".

So far, it looks like the answer is, "Yes".
New so we are going to be like canada then
6 months detention without a hearing or notificaton of being held
"Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts" – Richard Feynman
New Are you implying that makes it OK?
--

Drew
New nope
"Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts" – Richard Feynman
New Then WTF *I*S* your argument? If you have one, make it -- otherwise, STFU.
Or, preferably: For once in your despicable career as a shitposter, go out and buy a big bucket of decency, so you can then type the words: "No, sorry, as usual I didn't have a point. I just like to disrupt any semblance of rational discussion that threatens to show my Trumpnazi viewpoints are shit."

New precedent
Homan Square revealed: how Chicago police 'disappeared' 7,000 people

From August 2004 to June 2015, nearly 6,000 of those held at the facility were black, which represents more than twice the proportion of the city’s population. But only 68 of those held were allowed access to attorneys or a public notice of their whereabouts, internal police records show.

The new disclosures, the result of an ongoing Guardian transparency lawsuit and investigation, provide the most detailed, full-scale portrait yet of the truth about Homan Square, a secretive facility that Chicago police have described as little more than a low-level narcotics crime outpost where the mayor has said police “follow all the rules”.

The police portrayals contrast sharply with those of Homan Square detainees and their lawyers, who insist that “if this could happen to someone, it could happen to anyone”. A 30-year-old man named Jose, for example, was one of the few detainees with an attorney present when he surrendered to police. He said officers at the warehouse questioned him even after his lawyer specifically told them he would not speak.

“The Fillmore and Homan boys,” Jose said, referring to police and the facility’s cross streets, “don’t play by the rules.”

Satan (impatiently) to Newcomer: The trouble with you Chicago people is, that you think you are the best people down here; whereas you are merely the most numerous.

New No, really not
There are lots of old white men who are more vociferous in their beliefs. The problem is that the more carefully-spoken ones who wield the institutional power decided to put one of the raving loons in front of their party.
